A Fox News Channel commentator, Glenn Beck, said he believed President Barack Obama was a racist.
Beck made the statement during a guest appearance on the "Fox & Friends" morning show. He said Mr Obama had exposed himself as a person with "a deep-seated hatred for white people or the white culture".
His remarks came during a discussion over Mr Obama's reaction to the arrest of the Harvard University scholar Henry Louis Gates junior
Mr Gates is black and was arrested for disorderly conduct by a white policeman over a misunderstanding about a break-in at his home.
A spokesman for Mr Obama said the White House had no comment.
Beck's statement was challenged on the air by Fox's host, Brian Kilmeade, who noted that most of the people who work for the nation's first black president are white.
"I'm not saying he doesn't like white people," Beck said. "He has a problem. This guy is, I believe, a racist."
Beck wondered, during the discussion, what other president would immediately jump on the police for their actions in the case.
Mr Obama said in a news conference that he believed the police acted stupidly in the case, but later backtracked from the statement and invited Mr Gates and the police officer, Sgt James Crowley, to the White House for a conciliatory meeting later this week.
Bill Shine, Fox News senior vice president of programming, told the TVNewser web site that Beck had "expressed an opinion which represented his own views, not those of the Fox News Channel. And as with all commentators in the cable news arena, he is given the freedom to express his opinions."

Beck doesn’t pull many punches.
It’s refreshing to hear somebody who’s not terrified of touching PC third rails, like the rest of the blow-dried PC MSM weenies.

That is political. He hired a lot of white people to look good politically. It has nothing to do with his internal feelings for white people.
You don’t sit comfortably at a church for 20 years with a man screaming about how “white people greed” unless you are a bigot like the preacher.

Well, I think the UK ought to ban him from traveling there. Glenn Beck is a vile hater and shouldn’t be allowed in the same country with all of those gentle Islamic folk.
Did anyone hear him say, when introducing Sotomeyer. Something to the effect of,
“I’m looking forward to her getting on the bench, SO WE CAN HAVE SOME JUSTICE!”
What f....does that mean? “SO WE CAN HAVE SOME JUSTICE?”

Well, Glenn Beck is obviously right about this one; and it’s about time somebody said it. But let’s see what kind of fallout this produces.

Of course he’s a racist. His spiritual mentor of twenty years, who he lionized in his book and gave thousands of dollars to, Rev. Wright is a racist. He stereotyped his own grandmother as a “typical white person”.

They have been gunnin’ for Glenn for years. He has a scandalous past (which he has admitted). He is a Mormon. He is a Bush shill (even though he often criticized Bush) They can’t lay a finger on him. One misstep, one off-handed remark and I assure you, they will attack mercilessly. I think he can handle it.

Obama's view of the USA is much like an envious and resentful Third Worlder, with some black liberation theology mixed in. Whether he is a racist is one question, but he is showing himself to be race obsessed, not a good think for a president, or anyone in a leadership position. We'll probably see more of this come out from time-to-time.
He does seem to believe that poor nations are poor because of the affluent nations, and vice versa. Quite an idiotic and self-serving notion.
Beck’s comment pales when compared to the attacks on Bush and Reagan . . . But he is absolutely right . . . No one could surround himself with so many America haters, racists, and thugs and come away with any decent view of our country or its “white” people. Obama is an absolute jerk.
