A Fox News Channel commentator, Glenn Beck, said he believed President Barack Obama was a racist.
Beck made the statement during a guest appearance on the "Fox & Friends" morning show. He said Mr Obama had exposed himself as a person with "a deep-seated hatred for white people or the white culture".
His remarks came during a discussion over Mr Obama's reaction to the arrest of the Harvard University scholar Henry Louis Gates junior
Mr Gates is black and was arrested for disorderly conduct by a white policeman over a misunderstanding about a break-in at his home.
A spokesman for Mr Obama said the White House had no comment.
Beck's statement was challenged on the air by Fox's host, Brian Kilmeade, who noted that most of the people who work for the nation's first black president are white.
"I'm not saying he doesn't like white people," Beck said. "He has a problem. This guy is, I believe, a racist."
Beck wondered, during the discussion, what other president would immediately jump on the police for their actions in the case.
Mr Obama said in a news conference that he believed the police acted stupidly in the case, but later backtracked from the statement and invited Mr Gates and the police officer, Sgt James Crowley, to the White House for a conciliatory meeting later this week.
Bill Shine, Fox News senior vice president of programming, told the TVNewser web site that Beck had "expressed an opinion which represented his own views, not those of the Fox News Channel. And as with all commentators in the cable news arena, he is given the freedom to express his opinions."

Well, Glenn Beck is obviously right about this one; and it’s about time somebody said it. But let’s see what kind of fallout this produces.

Obama's view of the USA is much like an envious and resentful Third Worlder, with some black liberation theology mixed in. Whether he is a racist is one question, but he is showing himself to be race obsessed, not a good think for a president, or anyone in a leadership position. We'll probably see more of this come out from time-to-time.
He does seem to believe that poor nations are poor because of the affluent nations, and vice versa. Quite an idiotic and self-serving notion.
Beck’s comment pales when compared to the attacks on Bush and Reagan . . . But he is absolutely right . . . No one could surround himself with so many America haters, racists, and thugs and come away with any decent view of our country or its “white” people. Obama is an absolute jerk.

I though Glenn’s Americorps lederhosen skit the other night was dead-on too and likewise required huge brass ones to pull off. He wouldn’t admit it actually signified what we all know it meant later on O’Reilly, but I don’t think anyone failed to get the message.

Obama automatically assumed, when a famous black man accused a white cop of racism, that the white guy was guilty. At the least he's prejudiced against whites and probably against cops in general. Whether racism or arrogance was the main reason for his injecting the issue into his press conference is debatable--he evidently thought it was a good chance to lecture white Americans on their sins again.
For instance, if you believe in educational quotas... because White and Asian folks are too smart... then you are a racist. If you believe that White folks are always "putting down" minorities... sorry man, you're a racist...

Not having the facts, Obama spoke out of his prejudices and bigotries. Whether that was anti-police bigotry, anti-white bigotry or severe elitist snobbery is for him to explain.
Some would say Gates’ using of taxpayer money to take a trip to China to study the DNA of Yo-Yo Ma is an example of “acting stupidly.”
