Cop who arrested Henry Gates: ‘I’m not apologizing’
Boston Herald ^ | July 22, 2009 | Marie Szaniszlo

The Cambridge cop who arrested Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. told the Herald tonight he will never apologize.

“I know I’m not apologizing. It’s not that I’m digging in my heels, I just have nothing to apologize for,” said Sgt. James Crowley.

The 42-year-old officer spoke to the Herald on the porch of his suburban home. He said he feels bad about the fallout from last week’s arrest, but he’s not going to give Gates an apology.

Good for Sgt. James Crowley for standing his ground.

An apology is definitely in order!

Gates should publicly apologize to the officer for being a racist jerk.

Good for him. When my daughter was a patrol officer, she frequently dealt with people like Gates. They were always white professionals who felt that the cops were a subhuman class ... until they had a burglary, at which point they would call on an hourly basis to find out why the police had not dropped everything to recover their stolen skis or DVD player.

Obama just stepped in it on this incident when asked about the arrest.

Am I the only one reminded of Maxine Waters by all of this?

Victimhood is one of the most lucrative liberal industries in the U.S. Mr. Gates is a magnate in that industry? He’s done pretty well somehow.

If a Police Officer asks you to identify yourself
it is not racial profiling.

Particularly when a neighbor dials 911 to report a break-in.

He said he didn’t know the facts, but then added that the Cambridge police “acted stupidly”.

Col. David Hunt was substituting for Howie Carr today. It was a good show but one caller, siding with Gates, was particularly frustrating in his claims. I think his name was Doug and he called himself “an articulate white guy...”

How was Gates dressed?

Was Gates dressed in a suit and tie, or was he wearing sweatpants, a t-shirt, and 'felony flyers'?

I would have no problem proving to officers I lived at my house, and would have thanked them for checking on the place--and the neighbor for being vigillant on my behalf, had I not been recognizable or if an alarm had gone off.

What a jerk!--(who likely just moved to the bottom of the police response list below the puking obnoxious drunks, Friday night domestic disputes, and 'jonesing' addicts panhandling for a fix...)

The Messiah sees all, knows all, yaknow.

Not a very responsible remark to make, geesh.. but at that point, he was itching to just get out of there after another dismal performance.

What did he arrest him for? B&E? Or some other charge? Seems the jerk did prove it was his residence. Sounds like he must have been charged with something else.

Disorderly conduct. This is an AP account:

Police say the 58-year-old Gates yelled at the officer, accused him of racial bias and refused to calm down after the officer demanded Gates show him identification to prove he lived in the home. Gates denies that he yelled at the officer, other than to repeatedly ask his name and badge number, and says he readily turned over his driver's license and Harvard ID to prove his residence and identity. Gates said he was "outraged" by the arrest and has demanded an apology. He said he wants to use the experience to help make a documentary about racial profiling in the United States.

There’s nothing to apologize for and it should be the other way around. Sgt Crowley took a stand against the liberal pc establishment and God bless him.
