Castle versus the Birther
Politico ^ | 7/20/09 | Josh Kraushaar

Posted on 07/20/2009 10:18:06 AM PDT by pissant

Delaware GOP congressman Rep. Mike Castle made it on the Drudge Report today, but it’s not the kind of publicity the Senate recruit was looking for.

At a recent town hall meeting, Castle was confronted by a woman, birth certificate in hand, who unleashed an angry stemwinder about why she believes President Obama is not a legal citizen of the United States.

Many members of the audience applaud her remarks, leading Castle to diplomatically insist: “If you’re referring to the president, then he is a citizen of the United States.”

That didn’t play well with the crowd, who start booing and hissing. Castle responds: "You can boo, but he is a citizen of the United States.”

Castle, one of the leading Republican moderates in the House, is considering a Senate campaign next year. But this is the kind of reception that could dissuade him from pursuing another race.

Um, will someone let Mr. Castle know that being a "citizen" is not the question at hand.

Why can't this president release his? American citizens do it by the tens of millions.

All we are saying
is give release a chance

And apparently does not know the difference between a ‘citizen’ and a ‘natural born citizen’.

Is it front page news now? This thread was moderated down yesterday even while it was building steam. I know the moderators have a hard job but changing the topic from front page news to personal/opinion was inappropriate. As it is clearly going viral today. More because what the rest of the audience did, than this one brave lady. And Castle already joined the Specter conference on Cap & Tax. As this Politico article says, Castle's Senate ambitions are smoked if this crowd is representative.

exit82 attended this event and has a compelling report should anyone be interested.

I don’t pick any of those boxes when I post a thread. As long as its in the news section of FR, that’s good enough for me.

This is just more proof that those in office are not
representative of those that put them in office.

These people had the right idea, but they didn’t go far enough with it.

We need to demand that our representatives challenge Obama’s eligibility on our behalf, since apparently they are the only ones with “legal standing”. If we make it a 2010 issue, representatives wishing to be elected could even run on that platform... that they will legally challenge the election... demanding proof of natural born status.

Mostly, I think that is appropriate. A thread needs to be judged based on what else is going during the day and now likely that folks are going to want to see it. Highlighting prevents duplicate threads because people see the article already posted even though it may be several next pages down.

In this case, I found this thread buried in Personal/Bloggers and knew immediately this was big. But Personal/Bloggers cannot be promoted apparently to Front Page or Breaking.. at least I don't know how.. So after giving the original posters 4 hours to fix.. I pushed the thread over to news/activism and credited the old thread, which is kind of stretching rules but it needed to be highlighted. And it worked, the time it was running, several folks grabbed and forwarded so they saw the same thing.

“If you’re referring to the president, then he is a citizen of the United States.”

Well, of course the president is a citizen. By the very definition, he has to be.
The question is: is Obama the president?

It is technically possible that Obama is NOT EVEN an American citizen. Since his records have not been made public we can’t determine what his actual status is.

He might be a citizen now, but he sure was NOT when he was born in KENYA, Mr. Castle! Idiot.
