FROM RUSSIA WITH $$; BRAZEN NUPTIAL FRAUDS
NY POST ^ | 7/19/09 | EXCLUSIVE By ISABEL VINCENT and STEFANIE COHEN, w/ Melissa Klein

Posted on 07/19/2009 7:28:57 AM PDT by Liz

A slew of Russian immigrants are entering sham marriages in the States to obtain green cards -- in plain sight. A Russian-language weekly has an entire ad section devoted to "business marriages." A marriage broker contacted by a Post reporter posing as a green-card seeker walked him through the process. The marriage would run the reporter $31,500 cash. Of that total, $25,000 would go to the fiancée -- with $10,000 given up front and $15,000 paid after the green-card interview with Citizenship and Immigration Services. The remaining $6,500 would go to the agency for paperwork. The broker picks a "suitable" match from their database of eligible US citizens. Then the couple goes to City Hall for a marriage license. He said the so-called Stokes interview with Citizenship and Immigration Services -- a part of DHS -- "goes really easy" and is usually scheduled several months after the marriage. An ICE spokesman said the agency is cracking down........and recently formed a task force to target such fraud. A CIS spokesman pointed to the busts of 80 brokers in Florida in May -- "Marriage fraud can be difficult to prove given the audacity and sheer patience of the individuals involved," he said.

Yup, and there are constant ads for such marriages on Craigslist. When I reply to the person that this is FRAUD, I don’t exactly get responses thanking me for helping them avoid criminal activity.

So it’s two years the couple have to stay married to make the Green Card permanent.

Hmmmm, my old Ecuadorian galpal who came here under similar circumstances in the eighties said it was five years.

So...are they saying that I, a single American woman, can be paid $25k to marry an immigrant? I could get that much for a kidney, and only lose a weekend in bed.

And here I thought that Obama ordered the feckless FBI to change its focus from illegal immigration and attack fraud. It strikes me that this is a “twofer”, and one that the FBI (which dotes on statistics more than a baseball fanatic does) should really appreciate.

I have a very stupid nephew, a real simpleton, who is currently in one of these marriages. I guess the woman is really taking him for a ride. It’s the second time he’s hooked up with one of these women.

Stuck on stupid.

Well, all things considered, having to stay married for 2 years is pretty consistent with “conventional” marriages now days.

Lots of money to be made with illegals. From the local newspaper, (Norfolk, VA), we have this story.

Belarus man gets 7 years for illegal workers

Nicky Hilton is officially a free woman.

A Las Vegas judge granted the 21-year-old hotel heiress and her hubby, New York businessman Todd Andrew Meister, 33, an annulment, according to a joint statement issued by the couple's reps on Tuesday.

"Both parties have ended their marriage amicably and they remain good friends," the statement reads.

The estranged newlyweds, who tied the knot at the Las Vegas Wedding Chapel on Aug. 15, were just a few days shy of their three-month anniversary.

It's a revolving door here in Key West

The Lesbian and Gay "community" here (and in Ft Lauderdale and Miami) marry and divorce every two years for between $15K - 20K a pop - - and we have a new Homeland Security building here

Russians, Czechs, Poles and Chinese all trip through these communities for cash

Everyone knows it and it is common knowlage

There are lawfirms in Miami who will matchmake and handle the paperwork

It's a joke

At least they care enough about citizenship to commit fraud for it, instead of simply crossing the border and assuming they deserve it just for breathing...

Wow, my standards have fallen!

Technically ? Probably yes.

But INS will likely start investigating those marriages at some point.

Babes for sale.

For the most part, they are reasonably educated, pretty, and desperate to get out. American divorce laws make for a big draw.
