Defense Secretary Robert Gates is weighing a possible temporary expansion of the US army to ease the strain from wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, his press secretary said on Wednesday. Gates was discussing the idea, backed by Senator Joseph Lieberman, with senior officers to add 30,000 troops to the active-duty army, press secretary Geoff Morrell told reporters.
The possible expansion from the current strength of 547,400 would be designed "to get them through what is still a stressful period as we draw down in Iraq and continue to plus-up in Afghanistan," Morrell said.

He may be trying to stuff the military with Obamanatrons.
How to expand? By conscription, then I am against it. Raise Pay? Certainly our fine soldiers deserve more than we pay them now.
.. or just a great way for 0bama to temporarily “create” 30,000 gubmint jobs to give the appearance that Porkulus is working.
plus up?
You mean the dreaded SURGE? Obama opposed surge and now he wants SURGE2
Is this to help offset unemployment numbers??
New recruits must pledge allegiance to Obama, and not that silly old parchment written by Evil White Men.
More money.
Recruit from ACORN, La Raza, Berkeley, Black Panthers, LULAC, etc., just like the census? If he thinks he can get away with it, he most assuredly will. Since many of those have prior convictions and drug use, look for thousands of waivers issued from high up in the puzzle palace. Or look for a seperate force that he alluded to prior to the election aka his "Civilian National Security Force" or schutzstaffel.
Obama will probably cut the reserve forces by 60,000-120,000 soldiers to get the 30,000 active duty ones.
Double plus ungood? </1984>
ALLOW 50-60 yr olds to enlist
THE DRAFT
Raise military pay ... sounds like a winner to me. I would much rather my tax dollars go there than to other places like ... ACORN, GM, Wells Fargo.
