McCain, Kyl split on drug imports [McCain sides with Obama]

Arizona Sens. John McCain and Jon Kyl split as the U.S. Senate approved a measure Friday that would allow consumers to buy prescription drugs from foreign markets.

McCain voted for the measure, which passed 55 to 36. Kyl voted against it, saying he is concerned about safety and oversight issues. The Senate plan needs to be reconciled with a similar drug importation plan from the U.S. House of Representatives.

. . . . .

The Bush administration had opposed drug imports, but the new Obama administration has been more open to the idea.

The legislation proposes allowing MAIL ORDER DRUGS. You think there's a risk to American kids with drugs being delivered to mailboxess now, wait until those little packages come in from West Canuckistan and other places you never heard of ~ no one will know what's in them.

At least with American distributors the USPS can audit their mailings at the point of origin AND FDA people can be on site to observe what's happening at the packaging operations.

I doubt the foreign distributors are going to want either USPS or FDA people in their plants watching anything.

Frankly, Obama and McCain are mentally ill if they think foreign distributorships for medicines delivered to curbside mailboxes is a wise course of action.

Will it lower prices? Will it be same quality? Although some may be not-FDA or whatever approved. Quite interesting. McLame not interesting or surprising.

Well when those who buy overseas and then assume room temperature...McCain will be the first one to distance himself from the vote.

This was the main reason Bush did the prescription drug thing...or so I've heard.

To keep seniors from running across the Canadian border to buy state subsidized drugs.

Rahm Emmanuel was one of the main forces behind the Canadian drug-buying plan from up in Chicago I believe.

Senator Queeg is apparently too cheap to pay full price for his Aricept prescription.

Don’t americans at least those close to the borders cross over into Canada and Mexico and buy their drugs? Not sure about Canada but I know they do go into Mexico and buy. So what would be the difference if they were delivered to your mail box?

I agree with the borders and the illegals. Close them and throw away the key as far as I’m concerned. Let them follow the law and not Congressional whim to buy votes.

I haven’t been following the prescription drug issue and buying them from outside the US. I don’t know that answer, hope someone else might. Guess I’m lucky and not needing drugs or mail-order drugs.

Most States have exemption for drugs from sales tax so the actual cost (of the drugs, then add S/H) vs cost in US now would be an issue.

I doubt the foreign distributors are going to want either USPS or FDA people in their plants watching anything.

Not to mention how many more Federal employees would have to be hired if they did allow it. Hmmm, maybe that's the benefit 0bama and McCain see in this.

In US mail order drugs is permissible. In fact some health care plans provide for a reduction in cost that the user pays if they buy a 90 day supply via mail.
