Officials of the Iowa Republican Party say they are trying to attract Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to the state GOP's premier annual fundraising event.

After she announced she was stepping down as Alaska's governor later this month, aides said the decision was driven in part by her wish to help Republican candidates around the nation.

Wait a minute, I thought Palin committed political suicide last week......

The story was broken by the Des Moines Register, but their articles are blocked from FR. However, according to the article, Iowa GOP organizers and politicians are quoted by name as being extremely enthusiastic about having Palin headline the Reagan dinner.

but but, I thought she has no political future, that she committed “career suicide” by resigning. I think what Sarah meant by “higher calling” is advancing the Conservative Movement. If Sarah is able to get some Conservatives into the Senate and we can take back the House or Senate, wont we all be grateful to Sarah Palin for accomplishing that, that would be HUGE

But, but, but.....I thought she was politically dead now. All the pundits and chatterers told me so! It can’t be!

Palin was greeted by a big, enthusiastic crowd during her first trip to Iowa with Republican presidential nominee John McCain in September. She drew even larger crowds for solo stops in Sioux City, Des Moines and Dubuque.

Sarah must be careful.

She will be a terrific fundraiser.

The GOP bosses may wine and dine her to get in needed funds but then throw her in ditch when it really matters on election time.

They just want her to shoot, gut and cook the entree. :-)

Absolutely. I think she should fly solo for awhile and then make them grovel...ALOT, on bended knee, with lots of $$$$ in hand. Maybe never help them out.

They didn't help her when she needed it.

I'm going to keep an eye on her and see if she only supports real Conservatives. If she does a lot of money raising for “Republican” including the RINOs then I will know she is just another party hack. Time will tell.

This is too funny. Middle America gets it that now she will be free to go to this fundraisers and not have to worry about an ethics complaint waiting when she gets back. They know who will bring in the large dollars.

Sarah can raise money and boost attendance and she’s the only Republican with credibility these days. A least with the potential for a higher office. But Grassley is no friend. No surprise they want to use her, but I hope she doesn’t agree unless she gets something substantial in return and I don’t just mean a nice fee from the appearance.

She ought to make any candidate who asks for her support vow to adhere to at least basic conservative principles of low taxes, minimal government, strong national security and a pro-life stand. She will undoubtedly raise huge amounts of money and whip up the party faithful, but not for just anyone.

There was a clip of Grassley saying he'd welcome it.

The senator who has been a major roadblock to immigration, cap-and-trade, etc.
