Mayor Daley's personnel chief quits (accused of lying - Chicago Way)

Mayor Richard Daley's personnel chief resigned Tuesday, less than two weeks after the city's independent inspector general called for his removal.

Homero Tristan, a member of Daley's Cabinet as the top human resources official, was accused of lying to investigators from Inspector General David Hoffman's office, which was looking into City Hall hiring abuses.

Tristan called Hoffman's allegations "grossly erroneous and irresponsible." But Tristan said he could not fight the charges while representing the city in federal proceedings aimed at reforming its scandal-scarred hiring system.

"I can't do both at this time," Tristan said. "I will continue to defend my integrity."

Of course with this crew .. there's always the possibility that this could just be a convenient 'going away' party desired from the inside.

"The mayor understands that the commissioner doesn't want to be a distraction," Heard said."

They’ll have to hire trucks to carry out all the corrupt officials in Chicago.

Wait, they did hire trucks. ...and it was another corrupt scandal.

Mayor Daley is the real “Teflon Don”. In all the years the Feds have been investigating the city, every time they bag a top appointee or advisor, they just “resign” and never rat out Daley, instead claiming that he never knew anything about any wrongdoing if they are finally forced to admit their own role.

Logic can only dictate 2 conclusions here: either Daley is not only so imcompetent he continues to appoint the most corrupt scumbags to his administration, but he is also completely blind to what everyone around him is doing; or he’s complicit in the whole thing, but smart enough to insulate himself from direct involvement and cunning enough to keep anyone who does have dirt on him from rolling over.

That’s how the “system” works. They don’t associate with someone unless they have something on them. Chicago is utterly corrupt - in an honest sort of way.

Daley has enough power to get Obama elected. Now Obama is pushing the Olympics for Daley. Daley also runs Springfield. When Blago didn't do as he was told he got hammered.

Daley is probably one the most powerful mayors in the country in that the entire state bows to him. The governor of Illinois can't do anything without Daley. What mayor do you know takes out an airport without any kind of federal approval?

It's the old machine still in action. A political mobster.

“Homero Tristan, a member of Daley’s Cabinet as the top human resources official, was accused of lying”

Oooh....can’t have that in Chicago politics. It might damage the reputation of Chicago politicians.
