Palin Commits Political Suicide
Pajamas Media ^ | July 4 | Jazz Shaw

Posted on 07/04/2009 9:41:18 AM PDT by AJKauf

There have been a number of seminal queries which our elders used to define game-changing moments in America’s cultural evolution. Where were you when JFK was shot? Where were you when Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon? For me, although it will likely wind up as a Trivial Pursuit bonus round question, one of the treasured turning points may well be: Where were you when Sarah Palin decided to commit political suicide?

The odd thing is that I was up in the mountains, forcing myself into a period of decompression from the political theater. I likely wouldn’t have even known that Governor Palin had decided to resign her office had I not been taking time out from fruitless bass fishing to moderate the chat for Ed Morrissey’s daily show.

The first questions arose in a predictable pattern, since initial reports were grossly lacking in detail. The most horrific scenarios dominated: Was she sick? Was there some tragedy unfolding with her family? The second, and more likely scenario in my view, was that a clever reporter had finally unearthed a bit of discomfiture and asked the governor for comment. In that case, the pending resignation would prove to be a preemptive move to circle the wagons and prepare for the onslaught to come. When an elected official spends so much time and money fighting allegations of ethical misconduct, it should hardly come as a surprise if one of them stuck to the wall...

I don't even have a guess as to any impropriety, but this resignation did nothing good for Conservatives whatsoever.

Nothing at all
But one less conservative in power and no prospects for any political gain at all. - Except in the wishful thinking mind...

This gets Palin out from under the back biting in Alaska, and the witch hunt, bogus “ethics” charges that she has had to deal with.
This allows Sarah to be a force in the mid-term elections, and will give Sarah dozens of grateful members of Congress, who will be at her side soon, when she needs them!

Sarah Palin is taking a political risk, but is far from suicide. I think it is a wise move that will give Palin an opportunity to become the voice of conservatism and will lead to much stronger support.

I find it highly amusing that the MSM, lefties and some on the right and insisting that Sarah Palin is now done for. They don’t know that, of course, but they are throwing an awful lot of pennies into their wishing well.

In the old political realm, she may have.

But, that era is gone now and the rules don’t apply as they did.

Obama showed that and Sarah is writing her own rules now and in the end, I bet America gravitates towards her rules more than Obama’s.

I agree with the article. She couldn’t have just stuck it out another year? After the run for V.P. she should have just kept her head down, finished her job successfully and then went from there. Simple as that. I don’t blame her if she wants to get out of politics altogether but if she plans to run for anything else it should count against her.

Palin has this strange idea that an elected public official cannot call some of her constituents "IDIOTS" or worse "TRAITORS".. (paraphrased)...

Better that shes a regular citizen WHILE CAMPAIGNING.. while holding THAT idea..

The pundits are assuming that she’s just doing this for tactical reasons in some kind of political plan. Personally, I think she’s just sick and tired of all the sh!t, and has decided to exit politics. That’s pretty much what she said afterall in her speech. Can’t say I blame her.

Who sez she should of or shouldn’t do this or that?? Nothing is written in stone anymore and if you don’t believe that look how fast freedom has almost evaporated from our lives in the LAST SIX MONTHS?? Car companies gone, banks taken over, the free market trashed by the STATISTS!!! Sarah Palin has a plan and as an aside, she left Alaska prosperous and in good hands. By the by....has anyone noticed she single handedly took Michael Jackson OFF the front pages and away from the MSM???????????

Political suicide........

That’s an assumption based upon a political life beyond the current governorship term. That hasn’t been determined yet although some may say it is fact.

Good thought.. Alaskans don't just like Alaska or prefer to be here most of the time.. Alaskans LOVE Alaska..

Its a trial and sacrifice just NOT BEING HERE (in Alaska)..
Not to speak of the fact Now its beginning to be fishing season, and soon will be hunting season.. Sara Palins quality of life is diminished by public office.. and not only hers but her familys is too..

The thing I do not understand is why she quit before her term expired. If she had not run for reelection for governor in 2010 she would have had 2 years to run for president. Strange. Perhaps the reason will come out. But her quitting seems like a big negative her opponents will jump on.

Saint Sarah created the atmosphere she lives in. She made a lot of political enemies for whatever reason, if you notice she does not have many Republican defenders. She is not willing to do the heavy lifting. Live by the sword die by the sword. She’s best writing her book and getting $20,000 speaking engagements.

Could you have made it another year with legal bills far surpassing your income? Would you have gone bankrupt for it?

She did her job, ‘kept her head down’.....it was the media and her detractors that kept her in the news, not her.

“These pundits have a good grasp of the American people, who do not like to be fooled.”

Since when do the pundits have a good grasp of the American people? Also, Governor Palin is hardly fooling anybody. That woman doesn’t need a teleprompter to speak her mind and speak from the heart. The only people who may be fooled are those who are fooling themselves by hoping, and trying to convince others, that Sarah Palin no longer has a political future.

It is never wise to underestimate an intelligent and passionate woman.
