Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin plans to remain extremely visible and will give serious consideration to running for president in 2012, but has made no decision, a close friend said after her startling announcement Friday that she will resign her office.
Friends say Palin plans to spend time writing her book, which is due this fall, then promote it heavily when it comes out in spring 2010.
Palin is by far the Republican Party's biggest draw for fund-raisers and conservative events, and the friends say she plans to spend a lot of time traveling in "the lower 48" states, as Alaskans call the continental U.S.
Those friends say she plans to give a series of paid speeches, and will also make free GOP appearances, raising money for the party and for issues. She also plans to help other candidates, collecting political IOUs for herself.

Obviously I did not get the same feeling you got from her speech.
There were also aspects of her speech where she says that she is fed up with personal intrusions from the media etc and she listens to what her family wants, so some kind of hint that she is not interested for herself to run for some office and do active campaigning.
The way Sarah chose to get out will count as merely one strike against her, pitched by those who refuse to listen to her reasons. On the positive side, Sarah now has 3 1/2 years to travel the country, going on the offensive, with the potential of hitting home runs, minus the criticism that she should be performing her tasks as governor.
The left wanted her bogged down in Alaska for the next 17 months doing nothing except defending against made up corruption charges.
And she would have fallen behind Romney and Obama over the next 17 months, a fate worse I think than dropping out 17 months early from a position that in reality would prepare her little to be the next president.
Those are the rational arguments. You can choose to ignore them and instead offer empty conventional wisdom.
Sarah made a clear point that she was out of government for the moment.

As far as listening to what her family wants she said:
“Want me to make a positive difference and fight for ALL our children’s future from outside the Governor’s office?” It was four “yes’s” and one “hell yeah!” The “hell yeah” sealed it - and someday I’ll talk about the details of that...”
Again, maybe just me, but it sounds like she is not backing away from anything, but rather the opposite.

Let me just preface my post with this. I’ve always been very excited about Palin as a candidate. She’s got the right stuff. She’s really got a connection with conservative values and real people.
However.
I initially had some concerns about Sarah given her personal pressures at the time. She had a new baby with special needs. Her daughter was pregnant and unmarried. To me, I think it was a mistake to put a hat in the ring when there is so much like this going on.
But Sarah toughed it out. The gal had guts and did a great job campaigning. She electrified the campaign. But. She also was not so great at dealing with the press. There were gaps in her knowledge that made me uneasy. You can say that the MSM was unfair to her (true), but could we count on Ahmedinutjob or Chavez or Putin to be fair or take it easy on her? She needs to be able to handle all that to make it center stage for the most powerful country in the world.
Bottom line how I feel is this. Sarah is an amazing woman and I would like eventually to see her take a prominent role in the nation. But quitting the governorship will both help and hurt. She’ll have time to focus on her family (short term) and the rest of nation (long term). But she’ll be known as someone who couldn’t multitask enough to handle the Alaska governorship and her other responsibilities. And people will wonder if she has what it takes to handle a whole nation and its dealings with the world.
That is what I was talking about. There is something going on here and I wanted everyone here to see the posts that where on the other thread.
Well, if she takes this time to get educated and prepared, perhaps.

I have noticed. The liberals are going ballistic because now they don’t know what to expect.
The Obama attackers are everywhere. I have wondered for sometime about some so-called “conservative” pundits so it will be interesting to see what they have to say. The East Coast establilshment is not happy right now.

I agree. One thing we know about her is that she is a leader. The Left, and some within the GOP, recognizes that too, and that is why they are out to stop her before she becomes too strong.
She never had to face a serious threat in 2008...many questions were not even asked, as McCain/Palin was so far behind by the time they came to light. If gloves came off, she could be facing a some heavy bruising from questions, for example, about her contradictory statements that even her supporters couldn't address.
I don’t know about the rest of you but I’m looking for someone to stand out right now. Who in the Republican party is fighting the dems right now? Who is speaking out strong and loud? Who is the strong conservative opposition?
I may be missing something but I have been less than impressed with Jindal so far. I want to see who is standing out now not two years from now when they start campaigning and suddenly find their voice. I’m looking for the leaders today.
This was a dumb move on her part. I like Palin. I thought the press treatment she got was horrible while giggles Karl Marx Hussein Barry Obama got a pass. But if she runs for prez in 2012, I can see the commercials already from the DNC
I like Palin, but my gut feeling is that she’s committing suicide and giving the Dems a chance to take the governor’s office in Alaska’s next election. Unless she picks a real good VP choice, I think her chances of winning in 2012 are a little too low.
Still, Sarah is the freshest of the bunch. We need to dump the has-beens and wanna-be’s who the American public are tired of seeing, like McCain, Romney, Huckabee and the like.
