John Ziegler Exposes How Palin Derangement Syndrome Works

Although almost eight months have passed since last year's elections, Palin Derangement Syndrome continues to manifest itself throughout America's press.

As NewsBusters' Mike Sargent reported Tuesday, Vanity Fair's Todd Purdum is gravely afflicted with the illness, and needs to see a team of doctors quickly if he ever wants to be taken seriously by anyone other than the extreme Left.

With that in mind, Palin documentarian John Ziegler had a fascinating radio interview with Politico's Mike Allen Wednesday that shed some light on how PDS works and why it's so pernicious.

To set this up, Allen was on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" earlier in the day, and defended Purdum's piece (15 minute audio available here):

MIKE ALLEN, POLITICO: Nobody can agree on what exactly went wrong with that disastrous campaign. Todd has a great phrase in there where he refers to it as "A Bermuda Triangle of a campaign." [...]

I know that she was advised after the campaign to disappear, to study, to learn foreign policy, to learn economics, learn some of these issues and come back in two years when she was ready. She didn't do it, instead she did a series of stupid interviews that just dug her deeper..." [...]

Sure, she has incredible star power as you point out. She's wanted for fundraisers. We all cover her. But Joe, I don't think she's taken seriously as a policy person. I don't think that that's the sort of circus act the Republicans are looking for. I think she'll get tons of coverage. It's hard to see her at this point being taken as a serious person.

After playing these audio segments, Ziegler asked Allen: "Which really stupid interviews that Sarah Palin did were you referring to specifically?"

Reasonable question, correct? Yet, no matter how many times Ziegler asked it, Allen never gave one example of Palin giving a stupid interview despite telling MSNBC's Joe Scarborough earlier in the day, "she did a series of stupid interviews that just dug her deeper..."

And therein lies the heart of Palin Derangement Syndrome: making totally false statements about the Alaska governor without being able to back them up.

Sadly, as this is what most media outlets want -- dirt about Palin irrespective of veracity -- the mudslingers not only easily get away with it, but are revered for doing so.

Fortunately, Ziegler was having none of it, and pointed out the hypocrisy to his guest:

You made a very serious allegation that you seem to be backing off of that you can't substantiate, and I'm just. You're a very good reporter. You're not a lefty that I can tell. But I was disappointed that you would make an allegation like that on MSNBC where you're obviously, you know, that's what the audience wants to hear, and then you're not willing to back it up. You're a good reporter, Mike. I would think that you would have some substance behind an allegation like that. [...]

You're saying that there's a perception that's out there. You're presuming that perception is reality, and then you're not, you're making allegations based upon that perception that you have no substance behind. As a reporter, don't you find that at all troubling? If someone else did that, wouldn't you criticize that kind of reporting?

Allen didn't answer those questions either demonstrating how the state of America's media is such that so-called journalists don't have to substantiate negative allegations concerning Republicans. They can say or write whatever they want about politicians they don't like -- irrespective of facts -- with total impunity.

And therein lies a very serious problem.

Bravo, John. Bravo.

The attack machine is not just a product of the left, seems to b e several Washington elitist repubs, some on here regretfully, are capable of it too.

Allen caught in a blatant lie about Palin.

What a complete joke of a reporter!

I expect the left to be the left. What I have been completely flabbergasted at, are the Republican and even Conservative people who have bought into the left’s attempt to slander Palin for being ill informed on public policy matters.

It’s really disheartening to see people on our side who mean well, take Palin to task just like a Democrat.

It’s the entire Washington DC bureaucracy. The whole bunch of them are entrenched control freaks.

Darkness hates Sarah Palin. Its that simple. They crawl out of their caskets to vilify her, then crawl back in when the light shines on them. But it just makes her coming Presidency all that much more fun.

It seems to be what happens when a false premise is advanced agressively. People assume that if the opinion is so widely heard, it must be true. Keep repeating the big lie until it’s the only opinion out there. Then it becomes truth. For everyone. Relentless democrat propaganda is aimed at all, not just the goofy base.

What I'm seeing is a whole series of coordinated attacks this week by the DC-beltway RINO establishment (including those who are members of FR) to try and bury Sarah Palin now to clear the way for Romney, with the libs pitching in wherever they can.

My guess is that her tremendous Auburn, New York showing, coupled with last week's visit aboard the Stennis and to Alaska troops in Kosovo, convinced the RINOs that they had better act now and fast, or that it was over for Mitt.

It was an amazing interview. Ziegler asked him 5 times to give on example of a “stupid interview.” Remember he said “series of stupid interviews” implying more than one, yet all he could do is repeat some mantra about how people think she can’t handle herself well, blah blah. But no example of a “stupid interview”. It makes it clear, if you say what these liberals want to hear, then they won’t be troubled by whether its true or not. That’s how Bush Derangement Syndrome came about.

Sounds pretty damned accurate.

This is the Leftist tactic, make accusations, it doesn’t matter if they are real or fake, just make them. If you tell a lie often enough people begin to think its true.

Leftists fear Sarah Palin MORE than we ever feared Obama in 2004 after his speech to the DNC. They can recognize when a star is born. The Conservatives have their role model, and she takes the feminazi’s Female argument right off the table. The Womens rights movement has to support her or abandon their premises which is to further the progression of Women in power. There are more WOMEN in America than there are ANY other subgroup of people. Democrats FEAR numbers like that, and for good reason. She may well be ... dare I say it.... “The ONE”.

Esther at the very least!

Yep. This onslaught of hate won’t stop her like the millions of attacks in the last months haven’t stopped her. One can smell the despair and panic in the RINOcrat camp. They want her stopped now, but the RINOcrats have fired too early. They have never heard about keeping the powder dry. Amateurs.

I agree with your comments. I just wish folks on our side were more grounded when this type of effort is waged.

Instead of promoting the proper stand on Palin, and countering the left, they actually advance the leftist’s propagandist party line.

How much more defeatist can we get?

Allen and the rest of the Democrat "journalists" out themselves by pretending to care about the quality and strength of the next Republican nominee.

If Sarah was really the huge negative they claim, they'd be her biggest champion. They'd practically be demanding she run in '12.

I think they are piling on to the left created notion that she knows nothing. Okay, maybe the Couric interview also. Sarah has everything she needs. She is smart enough to know what she doesn’t know, I can’t believe how many people think they are so smart they can give her the absolute advice she just has to have, and don’t even have access to tell her in person, and don’t give her credit for being smart. Wait a minute .... that is starting to sound Reagonesque .....lol.
She has the instincts and smarts, Sarah can manage Sarah quite well, thank you, without attention seekers trying to look oh so much smarter and better than her.
Sarah will do just fine. What ever she does.

Just wondering how much of this flak Palin is taking is because she is a woman? The condescension towards Sarah by many in the media, both parties and even on this site is amazing.

You know, you take some crumbly iron and you put it in the furnace with some carbon, you start up the fire, you heat it, pound on it, quench it in water and you have tempered steel. I’m not sure the detractors realize that’s what is going on right now. Pound on Palin enough and you really won’t be able to stop her.

I don’t know whether Sarah Palin is ready to be President or not. But I feel strongly that if the Republican Party runs Romney in 2012.....another liberal Rino.......they’ll get creamed again, just like they did last November with McTurncoat!

Palin did fine in her debate against Biden. The bad economy and the lousy way McCain tried to handle it caused him to lose, not Palin
