Well it was my understanding that “transgender” is an umbrella term that covers everyone from cross-dressers to hermaphrodites (aka “intersex” people).

Wikipedia backs me up here that the term “transgender” as used today also covers these biologically-ambiguous people. (The pictures on that Wikipedia page are a bit disturbing though, so consider yourself warned ...)

My point was that if the Bangor Daily News decided it was impolite to delve into anatomical details of a fifth-grader, they might’ve just used the word “transgender” to describe this kid who’s already having enough trouble as it is without his/her genitalia described in a newspaper.

Well it was my understanding that “transgender” is an umbrella term that covers...

a variety of mental illnesses.

These people need medical help, but instead, their enablers encourage them and set them up for lifetimes of misery and abuse. Pure child abuse of the worst sort.

All those stories about children with cancer, and their religious parents deny them medical intervention? Well, these stories about "transgendered" children are in that ballpark too.
