The top U.S. military commander in Iraq says that Iran still supports and trains militants who carry out attacks _ mostly with mortars and sophisticated roadside bombs _ inside Iraq.
Gen. Ray Odierno says the attacks have been reduced but are still a problem.
He spoke on Tuesday at his base outside of Baghdad, as Iraqi forces took control of security in the Iraqi capital and other urban areas.
June 30 was the deadline for American troops to pull out of Iraqi cities under a U.S.-Iraqi security pact. The pullout was completed on Monday.
Odiero says Tehran is "still supporting, funding and training surrogates inside Iraq" and that he believes "many of the attacks in Baghdad are in fact done by individuals supported by Iran."
While they kill their own people, commit massive 3 million vote fraud in their own country, attack US coalition forces in BAGHDAD, and our own general complains, our president “reaches out.”
With the internal unrest in Iran, any increase of violence in Iraq via the Mullah regime is expected. They need something to get attention away from them.
No....REally???
Anyone paying any attention to Iran’s interest and Iraq’s situation knew 5 years ago that Iran would do everything in their power to both exert greater control over Iraq and ultimately subvert it if possible.
Payback from Iran because of the lack of fortitude of Barry in his failure to properly respond to the 3 a.m. phone call.
I don’t suppose that’s Persian sign language for “You are still Number 1”?
Oh, yes. Iran is flexing its muscles a little just to show the world its ability to be the standard-bearer for revolutionary Islam isn’t affected by its domestic political violence. I would not be surprised to see Hezbollah decide to shoot rockets into Israel at an increased pace again.
Of course they are killing Americans. Its been happening for several years with improved and more powerful IEDs. Yet no one in Washington cares at all.
Is that a real picture?
Ya know, I don’t really know. Some of the stuff I find is un-sourced and in this case it’s hard to tell if it is ‘shopped. ;)
That’s photoshopped. In Iran a thumbs up is the equivalent of the middle finger.
A young girl holds up photos comparing the Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad with Adolf Hitler during a protest against the result of the recent Iranian elections, outside the Federal Building in Los Angeles on June 23, 2009. President Barack Obama staked out his toughest stance yet on Iran, expressing outrage over a government crackdown and a "heartbreaking" video of a woman bleeding to death during a street protest. "The United States and the international community have been appalled and outraged by the threats, the beatings, and imprisonments of the last few days," Obama said, stiffening his rhetoric on the crisis. Don’t forget those nasty EFP’s, many of them come from our friends the Mullah’s in Iran.
Let’s 0bama and crew are smart enough (which I doubt) to keep our forces available in Iraq.
Which we should have sent to our Freedom Minded Friends in Iran.
Iran? Those nice guys? This has to be a mistake.
The only good thing about the one is he can order an attack just about anywhere and you won’t hear boo about it. This sucker’s got carte blache to settle some old scores. We are setting up the mullahs in Iran just like we set up Saddam. Well it’s a little different because Iran is a politico-economic squeeze whereas Iraq made the mistake of grabbing Kuwait. For this, Iraq received the triple threat response. All of the above plus punishing military action.
