Obama to McCain on Iran: 'I'm the president'
The Hill, Washington, DC ^ | 2009-06-23 | Sam Youngman

Posted on 06/27/2009 12:04:40 PM PDT by rabscuttle385

In a wide-ranging midday press conference, President Obama took on Republican critics of his stance on Iran, directly targeting former rival Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and saying, "I am the president of the United States."

Obama, who has been accused by McCain and other Republicans of being too timid throughout the unrest following Iran's presidential elections, has gradually taken a firmer stance in the days following the election.

. . . . .

"The Iranian people can speak for themselves," Obama said in the James S. Brady Briefing Room. "That is precisely what has happened these last few days. In 2009, no iron fist is strong enough to shut off the world from bearing witness to the peaceful pursuit of justice. Despite the Iranian government’s efforts to expel journalists and isolate itself, powerful images and poignant words have made their way to us through cell phones and computers, and so we have watched what the Iranian people are doing."

When asked if his tougher talk was influenced by critics like McCain and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), Obama smiled and said, "What do you think?

"I think John McCain has genuine passion about many of these international issues," Obama said, adding that they share a desire to see free speech respected. "But only I'm the president of the United States.

"Members of Congress, they've got their constitutional duties, and I'm sure they'll carry them out in a way they think is appropriate," Obama said. "I'm the president of the United States, and I'll carry out my responsibilities the way I think is appropriate."

“One can dislike him all one wants but he has a point, He is the President.”

I don’t think the point is that anyone misunderstands who or what he is, the point is that he is a narcissistic animal. The man thinks the entire world revolves around him.

By believing his own press releases he places this country in a very dangerous situation. He’s playing God with the lives and livelihoods of the citizens of America by not realizing his job as President of the United States is to first be a servant instead of being served.

I guess I’m saying his point is moot. It has nothing to do with whether I like the man or not. His motivations lie in his ego when they should lie in his love for the country, the constitution and the people he was appointed to serve.

"Okay, I'm the president. Until I need your assistance with something again, like that immigration stuff. Then I'm crossing party lines for the good of the country, see? It's all good..."

Ouch, someone's a little touchy. We get it, he's president, I think that has been made abundantly obvious. Over and over again. Like we forgot or something.

It's hysterically funny that he has to keep reminding people that he's president. Everyone I talk to is thinking he's less and less the president and more and more a place holder.

directly targeting former rival Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and saying, "I am the president of the United States."

For now............!!

Obama goes out of his way to insult McCain and yet the next day McCain is following him around with his nose up his fanny, helping him write legislation that will grant amnesty to 20 million plus illegals. Once that happens it will complete the destruction of America!!

Yikes. I hope he apologized to George Soros for this little faux pas.

"unfortunately many misguided white americans are what propelled obama to the presidency."

I would say "unfortunately many misguided GUILTY white Americans are what propelled obama to the presidency". But isn't it odd that Americans seemingly have so much guilt over the history of the enslavement of Negroes, but absolutely none over the well documented genocide of the American Indian?

That's because they were bigger men - yes, even Clinton - and were secure in their legitimacy and competency for the office.

His words, "I won"; "I'm the President" bespeak a deep, underlying insecurity that could turn out to be one of dangerous consequence to Americans.

And when an Iranian nuke goes off in Israel or a seaport in the USA as a result of his weak policies, Oh, Lord the SWHTF.

It is hard for me to envision the 90 to 100 Million Firearms Owners here in America uniting on such a basic level as that kind of emergency.

A liberal commie azzhat can not and never will have a single clue as to the sudden/immediate reversion to 1940's - 1950's morality and values for that one third of the entire population of the united States.

That would be the one third (or so) that is fully armed.

The American people think that he IS “qualfied”, but they particular hope that he “cares about them,” after eight years of Republican “heartlessness”. I don’t think we can ever convince them otherwise.

Even though he is anti-freedom, the American people are still expecting him to help them with their mortgages, fuel charges, and even food on the table. In a second term, they will be expecting help for take-out food from restaurants.

Obama is the “People’s President” like Andrew Jackson, FDR, HST, JFK, LBJ, and Clinton. The American people believe and trust that he will “help” them in a crisis. They think he has rescued the country from some dreadful danger, instead of causing the dreadful danger. We really have a problem with those LBJ called “mah fellow Americans”.
