Ex-Mitt Romney czar admits tryst with reporter

A former Romney administration public safety czar and Bay State police chief is scrambling to save his reputation after he was caught in an embarrassing scandal over an affair with a reporter covering him in his new post as Milwaukee’s top cop.

Edward A. Flynn, who was Springfield police commissioner before becoming Milwaukee’s police chief in January 2008, was forced to publicly acknowledge the “painful truth” of the illicit tryst after intimate e-mail exchanges with the journalist surfaced and were published in a Brew City newspaper.

The married reporter, Jessica McBride, 39, a college journalism lecturer and freelancer, and Flynn, 61, who is also married, are reportedly no longer an item.

What does this mean, that Mitt Romney knew someone who had an affair, so he's tainted?

I bet Romney knew Mark Sanford. I bet Romney knew Bill Clinton.

The headline uses the words "Romney" and "czar" to create sensation.

“Edward A. Flynn, who was Springfield police commissioner”

He must have held that post before Chief Clancy Wiggum.

I’m no Romney fan, but this is getting ridiculous.

That said, I would like to ask a tangential question:

Why do so many (male) politicans seem to have a problem with marital fidelity, including those who publicly endorse it?

I suggest the following possible reasons, or combinations of reasons:

1. Infidelity is wide spread, and can tempt even the Henry Hydes of this world

2. The same qualities that make someone competitive in the field of politics make the politicians more susceptible.

3. The same qualities that make someone competitive in the field of politics make the politicians more likely to be a sociopath.

4.Some of talented women hunt down athletes, others go for movie stars, others still want to land a man with political power.

5. Competitive people like politicians have a sub-conscious desire to place themselves at risk to see if they can beat it.

6. Two words: Original Sin.

7. Their wives become bitches once they achieve stature and power, and they realize they have their husbands over a barrel given the political pressure to keep up a charade.

I think your question could be rephrased:

Why do so many males seem to have a problem with marital fidelity

My guess is that males are simply wired that way (to go for attractive women). Whereas women are wired to go after high status males. Low status males don't get the same opportunities, because females tend to go for guys higher on the totem pole. Monogamy may simply go against human nature.

Cynical as it may sound, a lifetime commitment advantages an attractive female much more than a high status male. The high status male can get more powerful with time, whereas the attractive female can only get older. This is why many women prefer much older men - the idea is that much older men are less likely to get tired of their physical appearance in the time they have left.

Would this be the same Flynn that ordered his cops to throw any one practicing open Carry on the ground and take their gun away?
Mr. Flynn should have been more careful about how he carried his own “gun” and where he holstered it.
I sure hope MRS. Flynn throws him on the ground and removes his “gun” and maybe his ammunition pouches too.

Original sin is likely the root cause, but your question is why politicians seem to get into trouble. This latest story about the governor in SC has me wondering the same thing. I would like to posit a different idea that may seem controversial. While no responsibility can be removed from a man for the actions he takes, could it be that a lion looks for other hunting grounds only when he isn’t getting adequately fed on his own? It seems to me an entirely sane conclusion that IN GENERAL, if a man is getting what he needs at home, he won’t roam.

No, my recollection is the same.

The media fawned over McCain until he got nominated...and Palin joined the ticket.

My recollection is different.

When McCain ran in 2000, there were nasty questions about his sanity after having been a POW, and some dirty rumors about his adopted daughter being the result of an affair with an African American woman.

There were comments about his temper, too.

I don't think that "politicians" have a lock on status. To some women, driving a fancy car imparts status, at least relative to other men that can't even afford that.

Politicians who stray make the news because they have recognizable names and because there are political consequences to their actions. I doubt very much that politicians have affairs at a much higher rate than other men.

The point is that the liberal media uses their power to influence the political process. McCain was very low on my list of potential candidates but he was selected by the media to be the GOP nominee for the 2008 election. He was the candidate that the media decided would be easiest to defeat at the general election.

The media may have attacked McCain during a prior election, but that was to serve their purposes at the time.

I’d much rather have had Paul on the ticket [in `08] (in either slot: Pr or VP) than McCain.

It has been said before, and is becoming increasingly obvious, that there is little difference in action between the democrat and republican party politicians [as a whole]... neither party is for justice, how else can you explain that Murtha has not been tried for treason, or that Frank has not been kicked out for his corruption (and obvious involvement with Fannie and Freddie).
