Another Inspector General controversy (AMTRAK's IG suddenly "retired")
American Thinker ^ | June 22, 2009 | Rick Moran

There must be some horrible disease infecting our nation's Inspector Generals - public servants whose only job is to see that the taxpayer's money is spent wisely.

I can't think of any other explanation for why the third IG in as many weeks has suddenly "retired" under suspicious circumstances. This time, it's the AMTRAK's 37 year veteran IG Fred Weiderhold who has been put out to pasture.

The incidents call into question the independence of the entire inspector general system put in place by Congress to watch where our tax dollars are spent.

It also calls in to question how serious the Congress is about their oversight responsibilities if they do nothing about this attack on their constitutionally mandated responsibilities.

The disease is thugocracy ... It's what happens when your Constitutionality protected free press become the boot licking state run media.

“Oppressors can tyrannize only when they achieve a standing army, an enslaved press, and a disarmed populace.” — James Madison

America is down to one, and it seems to be selling at a brisk pace. America is not Iran, where you slaughter people in the streets.

I’m waiting to see if ACORN is put in charge of oversight, rather than independent IGs.

Well, that question kind of answers itself. It’s apparent that the Congressional leadership is only about acquiring more power and not doing what’s right for the country. Why else would they be trying to force through “health care reform” in the current economy? It’s about buying enough vote (ie. giving entitlements to the right people) before the next election. What Obama does is of only passing interest to them as far as the IGs are concerned.

Better retired than be labeled with dementia etc.. when they don’t really have it.

Sounds like the first IG was the warning shot to the rest, or they are supporting the first IG by retiring.

There are many taxpayer dollars going to Amtrack and Obama needs to clear out anyone in the way so he can use those dollars for his political cronies and pay to play scams.

“Support Amtrak Funding: Barack Obama has been a strong supporter of federal financial support for Amtrak. Obama believes we need to reform Amtrak to improve accountability. In many parts of the country, Amtrak is the only form of reliable transportation. In the U.S. Senate, Obama is a cosponsor of the Passenger Rail Investment and Innovation Act of 2007, a leading act to provide long-term federal investment to Amtrak. As president, Barack Obama will continue to fight for Amtrak funding and reform so that individuals, families and businesses throughout the country have safe and reliable transportation options.”

Thanks for the ping.

Obma and the democrats believe that with all of the power they have now that there is no need to obey the laws of this land..even those laws that they write themselves.

They are over-reaching big time and eventually their corruption(when flushed out fully) will make any penny ante corruption a few republicans were caught in look like childs play.

3 IG’s in three weeks! This article’s lead paragraph mentions only one. Who were the others? Who do the IG’s answer to ? The Obama administration ? Or to congress ? If congress, why should the class of “The 2009 Academy of Obamanation” be able to “redund” these inspectors when the branch of government they are supposed to answer to is congress ?

Yes it was sort of a rhetorical question.

The congress has for years been ignoring the constitution and ignoring any constitutional responsibility if it was politically difficult or unpopular with their base voter.
