ALEXANDRIA, Va. – Opening statements are scheduled in the trial of a former Louisiana congressman charged with bribery after federal agents found $90,000 in cash in his freezer.

The case is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. Tuesday in federal court in Alexandria, Va.

William Jefferson is accused of soliciting bribes, racketeering, money laundering and other crimes. Jefferson represented parts of New Orleans until losing re-election last year.

Prosecutors say he received more than $500,000 and sought millions more for using his influence to broker business deals in Africa.

William (Cold Cash) Jefferson must be a Democrat because AP “forgot” to mention his Party affiliation six times in the opening paragraphs.

I like the substitution of the generic “congressman” as opposed to the clearer Democrat.

I hope he rots in jail for life.

Fat chance.

I predict he will be elected to public office again in the future, regardless of the outcome of the trial.

The version posted now says "Democrat" in the second sentence. It says, "Opening statements started Tuesday in the trial of William Jefferson, a Democrat who represented parts of New Orleans."

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – Prosecutors say a Louisiana congressman was more than $60,000 in debt during the time he is accused of concocting a series of bribery schemes.

Opening statements started Tuesday in the trial of William Jefferson, a Democrat who represented parts of New Orleans. Federal agents found $90,000 in cash in his freezer, and he is charged with soliciting bribes, money laundering and other crimes.

Y’all need to go read the article at the link. Amazingly, the AssPress mentions WillieJeff’s political affiliation in the second paragraph.

Didn’t I just prove how imporant the headline is?

Who has time to actually read the article?

Plus, they buried it in the second paragraph!
