There are fears the incident may take communal overtones. I'm guessing, the victim was non-Muslim. And this happened in Gujarat.
India has the death penalty for rape. and Gujarat is pretty harsh on criminals. These three are dead men walking.

Also, there may be some serious retribution.
Either way, in India they can (and probably will) face the death penalty.
