Should the U.S. keep a closer watch on white supremacists?

No 33 86.8%

Yes 5 13.2%

This article is about flying the Confederate Flag which I believe is a simple matter of pride in one's heritage. The First Amendment covers all speech not just what is comfortable for everyone.

Thanks to joesjane for the ping!

Should we assume that anyone that flies the Confederate Flag is a White Supremacist?

FREEP THIS POLL ***PING!*** FRmail me if you want to be added or removed from the Fearless Poll-Freeping Freepers Ping list. And be sure to ping me to any polls that need Freepin’, if I miss them. (looks like a medium volume list) (gordongekko909, founder of the pinglist, stays on the list until his ghost signs up for the list)

I’m handling Dynachrome’s FReep a Poll pings until June 24. Errors and omissions during that time are solely my fault and should cease upon his return.

I voted no because its stupid and illegal to “keep an eye” on any American for the simple reasons of their beliefs or who they associate with.

Allowing the idiots in society to speak serves to keep them small and ineffective.

As far as the confederate battle flag is concerned I have no problem with it.

Just because the Confederate Flag is flown doesn’t mean the flyer is a white supremacist!

It’s part of our heritage and the CIVIL WAR wasn’t just about Slavery. (Bless Sister Fred!)

“This article is about flying the Confederate Flag which I believe is a simple matter of pride in one’s heritage. The First Amendment covers all speech not just what is comfortable for everyone.”

Can’t think of too many more heroic events in the history of warfare than Pickett’s charge...even the Union army thought so...or the bravery of those men who fought through all those years of privarion and terrible deaths...OK, OK, I get that there are some negative things some people automatically attach to the flag, but get over it...the flag is part of our great history...are we ready to REALLY enter the Brave New World of historical revisionism that these flag burners want us to enter? Talk about throwing out the baby with the bath water...

I'm in complete agreement with you there. This poll was meant to equate flying the Confederate Flag with racist White Supremacists. That's why I thought we should Freep it. Allowing the idiots in society to speak serves to keep them small and ineffective.

That's a good point too. As one Freeper's tag line says "Freedom of speech makes it easier to spot the idiots". Or words to that effect.

I have to leave my computer for a few hours so please nobody think I'm ignoring you.

LOL! I’m guessing this poll isn’t going the way they expect it to.

It was at 70 votes no and 9 votes yes when I voted. We’ll have to see if that changes any.

If you have an American who is Muslim and associates with suspected radicals should we not keep an eye on them?

The diversion is off the guy who shot people at the Natl Holocaust museum. They don’t want people looking at him too closely because if you do, you find out he’s a LEFT WING NUT instead of a right wing white supremecist.

The guy is an atheist. His idols include Karl Marx. Hates the jews, thinks they were behind 9-11. There’s more but it all adds up he’s a lefty whacko like Unabomber Ted (little shack) Kaczinski.

In making skinheads, neonazis, etc, illegal in europe, they’ve effectively created a sunbulture that is pretty attractive to a sizable number of european youths.

White supremacists?

Grossly overblown liberal fantasy.

I think it would require 2 or 3 Deputy Barney Fifes to keep an eye on the whole lot of them.

Any group that has talk of committing violent attacks and terrorisms, or even more so, a track record of doing should be watched. I also think sting operations to grab the more violent prone members and dissuade others is a good idea.

This should be done strictly on the basis of a groups rhetoric for violence and record of committing it, not how politically correct or incorrect it is.

I am more worried about the Black Supremacists who are in power. When the justice departement drops cases against Black Panthers and voter intimidation....one can tell from whence the true danger is coming.

Obviously, freedom guaranteed under the Constitution, demands that the answer is "no" ... with certain "IFs" attached:

--If the white supremacist has ever been convicted of any crime, then yes!

--If the white supremacist has a documented violent or death threat against any group (blacks, Jews, homosexuals, Hispanics, Asians or whatever), then yes! (this is a shades of gray area in that it the 1st Amendment freedom of assembly protects racists like Phelps and Duke to spew their hatred but not if some nutcase writes a threatening letter "I'm gonna kill you n----r!")

--If the white supremacist is openingly advocating the overthrow of the United States, then yes!

Within reason yes. In fact the shooter of the soldier in Arkansas and the Holocaust museum shooter were both good candidates for close scrutiny. I'm simply saying that you can't tap someone's phone simply because they're a muslim or a klansman. These guys both had a history.
