It probably took 30 years to catch them because the State Dept. is so full of Leftist traitors that this pair didn’t seem out of place, and the other pinkos wouldn’t turn them in anyway even if they publicly said “we’re spies.”

Typical. In Whittaker Chambers’ book Witness, he marvels at the fact that most of the most hardened Communist spies in the State Dept were the comfortable, Harvard-educated products of old New England families with old money.

Well, they sure got careless. They just accepted someone else waltzing into the picture saying they were from Cuba without any continuity from their known contacts. If you’re going to play spy vs. spy, you don’t do stupid things like that.
