Evidence appears to be mounting that the Obama administration has systematically targeted for closing Chrysler dealers who contributed to Repubicans. What started earlier this week as mainly a rumbling on the Right side of the Blogosphere has gathered some steam today with revelations that among the dealers being shut down are a GOP congressman and closing of competitors to a dealership chain partly owned by former Clinton White House chief of staff Mack McLarty.

There is an annual cost for the manufacturers to keep the dealerships (any dealership) open. So, the dealers have to sell a minimum number of cars to make it worth the manufacturers investment.
Some of these closed dealerships were under-performing and beneath these thresholds. I have no problem with Chrysler or GM closing them. It's the instances where both manufactures are closing wildly profitable and successful dealership, while keeping neighboring and less-performing dealerships that's the problem.
Why were some kept that were losers, while other were closed that were clear winners. Something smells there.

The good news is that each closed dealer is a highly motivated anti-obamian.
GOP should be all over this demanding investigations and calling this abuse of power and corruption. This is what dems would do (and that’s why they are in power).

How can anything that resembles "profit" from GM and Chrysler actually be profit? a) It's taxpayer money they took, b) They are owned by the government and the government owes $11 trillion dollars, c) when they need venture capital to expand, to they get it for venture capitalists, or fleece the taxpayer again?
this was a political swipe at conservatives pure and simple, they are trying to defund the right. I wish the GOP had half the spine that Comrade Obama has in the political sphere.
Or they can do what I did when I sold my own brand of products in independent stores: underperforming stores were allowed to still sell, but got zero financial support from me.
Chrysler and GM can simply tell those dealers not meeting the minimum qualifications that they will no longer receive financial benefits or support from the manufacturer. They can sell, but will not be financed or assisted by the manufacturer.
The reality is that many of these small, underperforming dealers were actually very strong used car or multi-brand outlets, where they move good volume overall, but the new car sales for a specific brand were small. Being able to claim "yes, we're a GM/Chrysler dealer" helped bring people in, and I bet most of those dealers would sacrifice the sales/marketing contributions of the manufacturers just to keep the manufacturer as an official car line.
If there is a cost associated, I see no problem with eliminating that cost, but it does not have to be reached by cutting the dealer off.
There was a disconnect between yesterday’s committee testimony and the reality of the closing list. I guess the chiefs learned the lesson of Waggoner’s firing and chickened out on saying “hey, we made the list on the merits and turned it in to our gubermint overseers; like any HR department, they added back all the favored groups and nuked the white males.”
Dealers are the car companies’ customers. We only buy the cars from teh dealer.

Maybe we need to fight back and only buy from conservative owned places.
If they didn't have preexisting, and iron-clad contracts already in place that guaranteed support to the dealers from the manufacturer, that would seem a reasonable solution as well.
I think some of the problem stems from these contracts between dealer and manufacturer, which could only be voided in this bankruptcy or quasi-bankruptcy filing. Additionally, I think these dealerships are protected under laws that were passed in different states. These laws also present problems in the manufacturer/dealership relationship.
I think the larger point about it better having more people distribute your product than less is a valid one.
