SAN FRANCISCOUnderrepresented minorities make up a very small proportion of high technology workforces, especially in senior level, according the results of a study released Monday (June 1). The study, conducted by the Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology, found that 6.1 percent of technical men and 8.2 percent of technical women in Silicon Valley high-tech companies are underrepresented minorities. The underrepresented minority groups are defined as African-American/Black, Latino/ Hispanic, and Native American/Native Hawaiians.
The problem is particularly acute for women of color, which represent less than 2 percent of high-level technical positions, the study finds.

Anyone ever call for tech help? They are anything but underrespresented.
Heaven forfend that you want someone with a degree in a specialty to fill a job requiring that degree. Let’s put someone from the”proper” group into a job the requires them to do calculus, or trig, or physocs, or chemistry. Hell next thing you know they will be saying that my surgeon should learn via OJT
Ok and how about the Asian “minority group”?
What’s its rate of participation and how does that affect the “average” for “minority groups”?
P.S. If by chance it is higher /s . . . then how does one explain this anomaly? I mean, after all, we are a racist nation.
Aren’t Asians a minority group. No one likes to talk about Asians because they are so successful.
When these aforementioned under represented types get serious about education, and quit allowing their kids to run tribal, the numbers will change.
Indians too.
How can this be? Every movie I see has a black computer geek character.
True dat. “Joe” and “Sally” my Indian tech support be representin’ well.
“Arent Asians a minority group. No one likes to talk about Asians because they are so successful”.
...you’ll never see an Asian with a “Will Work For Egg rolls” sign.
Whites underrepresented in the NBA.
I’ve been severely chastised for saying
“Asians aren’t considered a minority because they’re successful”
The chastiser called me a racist for the statement.
This “study” just proves it. They exclude Indians and Asians from their list.
Notice the term “underrepresented minorities”.
Gosh, I wonder why “underrepresented minorities” ARE “underrepresented”....
could it be the definition?
“... found that 6.1 percent of technical men and 8.2 percent of technical women in Silicon Valley high-tech companies are underrepresented minorities...”
That’s a pretty obvious “conclusion”. If the percentages were higher then the particular groups would not be under-represented would they?
Next I expect to see a study which concludes that intelligent people are underrepresented among those who perform studies.
Message to minorities:
Study more math and science.
Yeah, just try finding a native born American in any call/help center.....oh wait, that wasn't what the article meant .....never mind.
Minorities are also underrepresented in tech-oriented eductaion programs, underrepresented in applying for said programs, underrepresented as tech hobbyists, and underrepresented in making education a priority.
I see more Indians working in the financial world than blacks or hispanics, even though Indians are outnumbered by the former 13-1 and the latter 14-1. Do East Indians not count?
That ain't keepin' it real.
