A new poll of the potential 2012 GOP primary field from CNN/Opinion Research Corp. shows a log jam of three candidates at the top. Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, and current Alaska Governor Sarah Palin are in a statistical dead heat according to the survey conducted May 14-17 with a 4.5% margin of error:

Huckabee 22 Palin 21 Romney 21 Gingrich 13 Jeb Bush 6 Someone Else 10

In related news, Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty, who announced today he would not be seeking a third term, dodged questions today about running in 2012 while adding that he believes the GOP needs "new ideas and new faces."

“Preferring Romney or Giulani in 2012 makes me a liberal? You’re not very good at this trolling thing...”

Something about Romney sets off the dumbest knuckledraggers in FR. Pay them no mind. A lot of it is anti-Mormon bigotry. A lot of it is simple envy.

Were you around for the Guiliani purge?

“It’s amazing to me that people see her as some great charismatic figure, it’s a little eery given the criticism of the Obamabots and their devotion. She did an admirable job trying to rally the troops toward the end but she had her share of bad performances and missteps.

She had a excellent record in Alaska and should have stayed there to build on it instead of climbing the ladder. McCain is a douche but he should not have picked her in the first place knowing that it would take away from his experience advantage, esp since he threw under the bus afterward. She owed him nothing and should have turned him down privately and stayed committed to her state.

The object is to win in 2010 and 2012. She will not and cannot win in 2012. Mark my words.”

I would be happy with either Palin or Romney in 2012. I’ve actually examined them as candidates.

Thank you for your thoughtful posts.

I guess this shows that nothing has changed. They didn’t poll anybody I know. The people I know have had enough and none of the above need apply.

...just wait until her rallies start—THOSE will tell the tale!

Excellent point, VA Ridgerunner. At her events, Sarah Palin would attract five to ten times more supporters than the others would to theirs.
If she decides to run there will be a nationwide groundswell for her.

At the end of the day, Romney should be as welcome to the GOP
as herpesvirus, influenza, and Ebola together.

"Peeking Out From the McCain Wreckage: Mitt Romney"

"Someone's got to say it: IS MITT ROMNEY RESPONSIBLE FOR OBAMA'S VICTORY?"

"Vanity: Team Romney Sabotaged Palin and Continuing to Do So?"

"Romney Supporters Trashing Palin"

"Romney advisors sniping at Palin?"

Poor sport spoiler Romney doing what he does best:

Novak: "Fred Thompson drop-out rumors traced to Romney campaign"

Said Novak: "The rumors were traced in part to Mitt Romney's campaign,
trying to stir up strife between McCain and Thompson
."

"Despite outspending his rivals by huge margins throughout the primaries,
(Mitt Romney, Carpetbagger UT,CA,MA,NH,Mexico) lost Iowa, South Carolina, Florida and California.
The only primaries he won were in Michigan, where Dad was governor; LDS states;
and a few states on Super Tuesday in which his California-obsessed rivals
couldn't spare the cash to advertise.
Only John Connolly in 1968 had a worse cash-to-delegates ratio.
And John McCain rightly did not like Romney's tactics during the primaries.
(W)hen (Romney's early leads) started slipping away, he resorted to unfair,
distorted, scorched-earth negative ads, betting that his opponents couldn't
afford to spend enough for the truth to catch up to his charges."

You forgot one HUGE thing. Unparalleled media support... Something I’ve NEVER seen in my life... I agree with the power comment, but it’s the MSM that’s given a huge chunk of it to him.

Save you kool aid drinking mantra to those who don’t know. You are on the WRONG site trying to push YOUR “Sarah doesn’t have the experience” rhetoric. You don’t understand this but conservatives know their own. They can spot a RINO w/very little effort. We don’t support impostors.

I’m sure you will - along w/your kool aid thermos - be on every Palin thread till 2012 pushing your ‘stop Palin’ agenda echoing the MSM. So weak, so boring, so pathetic.

Thanks for reading.

THANK YOU for posting The Truth.

Palin has gonads folks. Which is why the establishment doesn’t like her. She will go after PUBS as much as she would RATS in the area of ethics. She would clean house, cut agencies, reduce taxes and call out corruption.

Can't help but think of Jeb's/Mitt's statement - forget Reagan era. It was indirectly aimed at Sarah. They DON'T want a 'clean house' and they know she is the person to do it. They have 'faith' in her capabilities - like you said that's why the RINO/RATS are fearful of her!

Yours is a 'keeper' post!

Maybe he had an off night. He spoke off the cuff at for an hour when I saw him and the crowd was enthralled. We had Romney and George Allen in previous years. But he was the biggest hit in recent years.

His people knifed Fred Thompson in the back, and they got a bunch of themselves hired by McCain and kneecapped Palin from inside the campaign.

TOTAL LIES that have been refuted time and again... So lame... Hate him for his policies, if you wish, but don't jump on these outright blatant lies.

Yes she is a charismatic, natural born leader and vote getter, you don’t send someone like that to the senate.

She brought life to the 2008 republican campaign and it is one of the major reasons so many conservatives think of her as Reagan like, she knows who she is and people like her.

You are correct she did have an excellent record in Alaska, in fact she was the most popular Governor in America.

The woman knows how to win elections, she is fearless, she is a conservative, her showing that she gave with no notice or preparation or organization was astounding and effective, she kept 08 from being a total bloodbath.

It's amazing to me that people see her as some great charismatic figure, it's a little eery given the criticism of the Obamabots and their devotion.

Blind devotion to someone who will not show proof he is even eligible to hold the highest office in the land. Someone who's lauded for his communication but needs a teleprompter - someone who says - 'my muslim faith', 57 states, someone who votes 'present' - someone's claim to fame is a community organizer - yeah they should be criticized. You say 'eery' - you got eery - you can't/won't/don't want to see the difference because of your agenda.

I can't say you are blinded - you know exactly what you are doing on this conservative site - and, so do the conservatives on this site. Your blindness rests in your inability to see we are not fooled/taken in/persuaded with your rhetoric.

she had her share of bad performances and missteps.

Mark my words - it is YOU who has a bad performance and missteps - all spelled out in your post. You didn't accomplish your mission - you only exposed yourself.

Go Sarah go!! Keep it up - you are really pissing off our enemies so much they are making total fools of themselves in their 'attempt' to discredit you! And they say - you are NOT a force to be reckon with. LOL!! Their own actions prove otherwise.

Not only the famous Giuliani purge but here is the owner speaking about the Romney crowd.

"If there is anyone here who doesn't understand why we cannot support a slick socialist politician like Mitt Romney, God help you, but you're on the wrong website. We went through this with the abortionist, gay rights activist, illegal alien supporting, gun grabbing Rudy Giuliani until someone created another website call WAnkers for Rudy and they all flew the coop. Hopefully, before too much FReeper blood is shed, someone will create a WAnkers for Romney site and we can be left to fight the good fight as we see fit! FR is not for everyone! "
