A new poll of the potential 2012 GOP primary field from CNN/Opinion Research Corp. shows a log jam of three candidates at the top. Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, and current Alaska Governor Sarah Palin are in a statistical dead heat according to the survey conducted May 14-17 with a 4.5% margin of error:
Huckabee 22 Palin 21 Romney 21 Gingrich 13 Jeb Bush 6 Someone Else 10
In related news, Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty, who announced today he would not be seeking a third term, dodged questions today about running in 2012 while adding that he believes the GOP needs "new ideas and new faces."

I’m not a huge fan of Romeny’s but will take him over the others at this point. IMO, Palin needs to go to the Senate. Unless someone else comes along, I’d like to Giuliani run. He has balls, will attack back and would actually get something done.

Huckster? don’t think so. He demonstrated his low class status by staying in the race as a mere vote splitter.

"Sad for us. I dont like any of em. Perhaps it's always been this way, but certainly in the modern, post-tv era, Presidential politics is nothing but a popularity contest.
Ideological, philosophical and policy positions aside, none of those three can beat Barack Obama, even if the economy is a little worse in 2012.
Pawlenty is right insomuch that the GOP needs "new" faces as the rest of our candidates really are just too damaged to mount any credible campaign against the juggernaut that is the Obama political machine.

Huck=?
Romney=RINO........will probably be pushed on us by the GOP leadership.

Whatever happened to Huckabee’s promise to go open a bait shop and drop the hell off the face of the Earth?

I think that Sanford has the best shot of any possible candidate that’s out there right now. But, three years is a long, long time in politics.
To: sam_paine
Have you ever heard anyone make the case for Suckabee?
Me neither.

The Senate is the kiss of death. Harding was the last
republican Senator elected President and Kennedy the last democrat until Obama. Governors are elected President so palin is right where she needs to be. A Gov will be the next President as the anti washington wave rolls in 2012.
VP Nixon
Gov Carter
Gov Reagan
VP Bush
Gov Clinton
Gov Bush
Sen Obama
See the trend. Governors.
To: Checkers
For me its Sarah number 1 followed by “someone else”.
The rest shouldn’t waste their money or our time.

Huck would throw conservatives under the bus if he thought he could get elected.
His past actions with illegal aliens prove it.

I’m leaning now toward Sanford as a personal preference, but we’re leaving out a dark horse. If BHO is as despised as I expect him to be in 2012, George Allen will be back—macaca just won’t matter anymore.
