'Proud Hungarians must prepare for war against the Jews'
HaAretz ^ | 6/1/2009

Posted on 06/01/2009 10:32:31 AM PDT by Nachum

Given our current situation, anti-Semitism is not just our right, but it is the duty of every Hungarian homeland lover, and we must prepare for armed battle against the Jews."

This quote appeared in a newsletter published by an organization calling itself "The trade union of Hungarian police officers prepared for action".

Hungarian law allows police officers to organize in trade unions of their own. The union - by its own definition - aims to protect the professional interests of those unionized, and not to partake in political activity.

However, the law does not prevent the union from distributing a newsletter, the content of which is at the discretion of its editor, and its editor alone.

The editor of the "prepared for action" union, Judit Szima (who also serves as the secretary-general of the union) didn't see anything wrong with the content of the article quoted above.

I seem to remember that Hungary had a pro-Nazi government that was overthrown during the war.

I have often had the experience of talking with a fairly reasonable sounding, erudite European, only to have some piece of vile anti-Semitism come flying at me without prior warning. Has happened with people from a few other countries too.

Tame compared to what they say about blacks. If you ever go to a soccer match over there with blacks on the opposing team (or even on the home team), some of the racial epithets thrown out there would even make a Klansman blush.

Our Democrats could learn a thing or two about antisemitism from their Hungarian brothers at arms First and formost be proud of your beliefs, remember Al Gore during his brown period, get those chests thrust out.

I too have encountered this. There was one individual in particular that could speak at length on a wide-ranging array of subjects and maintain an even-tempered approach on even the most controversial, but have the word “Jew” come up and he would melt down into a heaving mass of hateful invectives.

Intense, stark, unreasoning hatred.

I now know what it’s like to live in places like Saudia Arabia, Iran, and New York City...

Me too. While I expect such things among the lower classes of eastern Europe, I can remember two shockingly anti-semitic harangues from a Greek lawyer and an Austrian grad-student in Poly-Sci. As is the case in Latin America, you scratch an anti-zionist and usually find an anti-semite, particularly the more you let them ramble and/or drink.

The Hungarians (or “Bohunks” as my dad used to call them) have a long and particularly vile history when it comes to the Jews. My first wife (now age 65) was born there and came to the US with her parents following the 1957 uprising. Years ago I asked her mother about the Nazi shipping of Jews to concentration camps: “Did you know it was going on?” Her answer: “What do you think we were; stupid? Of course we knew.”

Yes. But this guy was not born to a postal clerk in 1889. This was an upper middle class seemingly mild mannered Poli-Sci student.

Well, at least he was conscious of his hatred. He didn't appear to have Waldheimer's Disease (whereby you miraculously forget that you were a Nazi).

To be fair, anti-semitism was all the rage throughout most of Europe, with a particular nasty strain developing from the late 19th century that bore full fruition in Europe. Nevertheless, we should remember those specific nations (Hungary, Romania, Italy, Croatia, Slovakia, etc.) that had pro-Nazi governments.

Making hissing sounds at Chelsea like that heard by Jews in the Nazi gas chambers is pretty hard to top.

Yep, interesting “A Tale of Two Countries” Slovakia and Poland, both were Slavic, Catholic, similar languages, but very different treatment by Hitler.

Seems they are coming to a moment in time.

Scary piece. The end part was also scary in an entirely different way:

“One of the two main reasons for the Hungarian authorities’ failure in the face of racism and anti-Semitism is the fact that there are many right-wing elements within the government, who secretly or outright support the racist views and refuse to battle their perpetrators seriously. The other reason is that during the regime change of the 90s, the lawmakers viewed freedom of speech and expression as an absolute priority, and to this day don’t provide protection to the victims of the misuse of this freedom.”

(1) Notice how the blame the “many right-wing elements”? Wonder if the author even knows that “Nazi” means “national SOCIALIST”? Or that it’s the left (including ironically many socialist Jews) throwing Israel under the bus in favor of islamists and the paleostinians?

(2) The bit about “misuse of freedom” is also idiotic. Would he rather have this stupidity in the light (through self-exposure) where it can be countered, or quietly festering in the dark? Many people don’t get that one of the purposes of Free Speech is it gives even the scariest nutjobs freedom to spew their filth, thereby getting them to reveal themselves and allowing them to be countered.
