Virginia Republicans completed their 2009 ticket in Richmond this afternoon, teaming gubernatorial nominee Bob McDonnell with Bill Bolling for lieutenant governor and Ken Cuccinelli for attorney general.

Bolling, the current lieutenant governor and a Hanover County insurance executive, faced nominal opposition from Patrick Muldoon, a lawyer and farmer from Southwest Virginia who said Bolling isn't sufficiently conservative.

I’m unfamiliar with VA politics. Is this a good set of candidates?

An excellent set of candidates.

The only one up in the air before today was the AG slot. The solid conservative won. The other guys are good guys, but Ken Cuccinelli is about as solid on the issues as you can get.

I’ve been dismayed with Virginia GOP politics over the last few years, and in particular the last few months.

This is a breath of fresh air.

Let’s hope we finally take all 3 again for the first time since 1997.

We’ve got a chance to do just that.

Lt Gov. Bolling deserves a round of applause for deciding to wait on running, sparing us a brutal primary disaster that we went through 8 years ago. He’ll certainly deserve a nice clear field for Governor in 2013 for his conduct.

Indeed, of everyone in this race, he made the biggest personal commitment.

What a day at the convention. The speakers were very engaged. The Conservative selections have been made and they will be very strong this November. Bring on Clinton’s puppet. I will be back as a delegate the next time I have a chance.

It was a fun convention! I have to say it's a very strong ticket and Sean Hannity did a great job this morning. However, by far, the speaker who brought down the house was the Hokie Corps of Cadet young man with a HUGE future in the GOP.

Nothing on YouTube of any consequence yet — will keep checking.

Another highlight was all the Gadsden flags that popped out when Ken Cuccinelli took the podium.

Patrick Muldoon is a Republican candidate for Lt. Governor. He is a native of Southwest Virginia and practices law in Washington DC at the law firm of Duane Morris.

Another Doyle, I doubt he lives in the state.

What are the chances that the Va GOP manages to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory against the odious Terry McAuliffe?

I'm guessing at least a 40% chance.

>Is this a good set of candidates?<

I’ve never been so glad to see a candidate beaten, after Patrick Muldoon’s
flat-out nasty campaign speech in which he simply threw attack after attack at Bill Bolling. No wonder the man has never won elective office.

And, more insulting, Muldoon refers to himself as a right leaning conservative.

Cuccinelli is the right pick for AG. Good ticket.

Wasn’t Bolling one of Romney’s people?

That’s the only thing that irks me.

I attended the convention...it was pretty good, but a lot of stuff was repeated over and over.

At least I got to hang out with the RLC folks.

Oh, and Lindsey Graham got booed in absentia for his bank nationalization remarks.

Well, no doubt McAwful is trying to buy the race. But this is the strongest ticket we’ve had in several rounds.
