WASHINGTON – A top al-Qaida suspect held at Guantanamo Bay will be sent to New York for trial, an Obama administration official said Wednesday, a major step in President Barack Obama's plan to close the detention center by early next year. Ahmed Ghailani would be the first Guantanamo detainee brought to the U.S. and the first to face trial in a civilian criminal court.

An official, speaking on condition of anonymity because the person was not authorized to disclose the decision, told The Associated Press the administration has decided to bring Ghailani to trial in New York. He was indicted there for the 1998 bombings of U.S. embassies in Africa — attacks that killed 224 people, including 12 Americans. It was not immediately clear when the transfer would occur.

Obama cares more about the “rights” of terrorists than the safety of Americans.

I don’t trust Obama or the courts to keep these terrorists off our streets.

who knows what intelligence gathering sources and methods will be disclosed during this trial.

this is driven by ignorance or placing a higher value on ideology than national security.

It is not stupid. It is not ignorant. You have to hate your country to do something like this.

It is driven by an unpatriotic, America Hating socialist...How many times does it take? I hope all the MORONS who voted in this Communist unqualified corrupt poor excuse for a human being know what it’s like to go to 100s of funerals and lose colleagues and neighbors...not to mention family...

I’m sure they’ll have some ACLU attorneys who will fight for the Terrorists rights...where do our rights come in? Where does our security and well being matter? Certainly not to the ingrates who continue this kind of policy...and we pay their salaries...

I’m speechless they would have this trial in NY. Talk about putting salt in the wounds of New Yorkers.

Remember this is under the same administration who purposely flew a plane low and overhead to scare the wits out of everyone in New York City. They are demented.

It's not as if New York doesn't have enough problems with the practitioners of the RoP.

FBI, NYPD Arrest 4 in Alleged Plot to Bomb NY Synagogues

And they weren't Danish Lutherans.

IIRC, it was the NYC office of the FBI that worked on the embassy attacks.

It was during Clinton he litigated everything but himself....why do you suppose it took them so long to take it to trial? Still no excuse to bring him to NYC or any other place in the US...the acts were not perpetrated in the US...

The costs associated with holding the trial in a U.S. city compared to a trial at Gitmo have to be in the millions.

So, they are having the trial in NYC because the NY office of the FBI worked on the embassy attack cases? Is that correct? If so, thanks for the info because I was scratching my head trying to understand why they choose NY.
