1 in 7 Detainees Freed Returns to Terrorism, Pentagon Says By ELISABETH BUMILLER
WASHINGTON An unreleased Pentagon report provides new details concluding that about one in seven of the 534 prisoners already transferred abroad from the prison in Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, has returned to terrorism or militant activity, according to administration officials.
The conclusion could strengthen the arguments of critics who have warned against releasing any more prisoners as part of President Obamas plan to shut down the prison by January 2010. Past Pentagon reports on Guantánamo recidivism, however, have been met with skepticism from civil liberties groups and criticized for their lack of detail.
The Pentagon promised in January that the latest report would be released soon, but Bryan Whitman, a Pentagon spokesman, said this week that the findings were still under review.
Two administration officials who spoke on condition of anonymity said the report was being held up by Defense Department employees fearful of upsetting the White House, at a time when even Congressional Democrats have begun to show misgivings over Mr. Obamas plan to close Guantánamo.
The White House has said that Mr. Obama will provide further details about his plans for closing the prison there in a speech Thursday morning at the National Archives.

and the other 6 they have no idea what they are doing...
So, only free the 6 who don’t return. No brainer!
The good news is that Gitmo has a much lower recidivism rate than our regular prisons.
The bad news is that thugs released from our regular prisons aren’t trying to nuke an American city.
Interesting coming from the NY Times. Not helpful to the 0ne’s campaign promise on Gitmo. Hmmm...
76 of the freed will return for another go round under someone else. Slow learners maybe the treatment could be worse they could use former Clinton people to get the info we need!! Ugly people can get a lot of things done if they promise to leave after you get the right answers to the questions.
That's out of the "good" ones who were deemed worthy of release. The "bad" ones are still there.
It only takes one.
I don’t understand why we just don’t implant tracking devices into the detainees and then turn them loose in Afghanistan, track them like the rats they are, find the nest of rats, and whack the rodents.
