Defense Secretary Robert Gates has confirmed that Iran conducted a successful ballistic missile test.....Gates was asked about the reports during congressional testimony.
He said that the successful test involved a missile with a range of approximately 2,000 to 2,500 kilometers. He said that because of chronic engine problems, the range is probably on the lower end of that scale.

When, not if - surely just a matter of days: how will the ensuing festivities affect us?
...Obama “has long been concerned” by any development in Iran’s missile program, White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said. A U.S. official said the test was a “step in the wrong direction”....
One Western expert saw the missile test as Iran’s response to the Israeli prime minister’s U.S. visit this week.
Coming a day after Iran’s supreme leader accused the United States of promoting terrorism, the test was a further disappointment for the Obama administration, which is seeking rapprochement with Iran after three decades of mutual mistrust.
“Iran just keeps going in the wrong direction. We want them to engage with us, to talk about how we can make the region more stable. This is just a step in the wrong direction,” the U.S. official said

Gee maybe obama will flip on this just like he did today on GITMO?
Depends who’s definition of success you are using. Mine says that if they launched a missile and it hit them it was a success. All other launches are failures.
True up to a point - if /when armed with a nuke warhead, even an Iranian missle that falls short of it’s intended target is going to hurt - and trigger an all our war....
Not if they hit themselves. We get to laugh at them.
I was thinking last now how bizarre it is that many Americans are terrified of nuclear power, but they don’t seem at all fazed by a nuclear Iran!
Bush’s fault; he should have been more understanding
I’ve just got a bad, bad feeling about this.
I think we should launch missles to land in unpopulated areas near every major Iranian city.
Just to remind Iran, that they can hit Israel, but we can hit them hard and fast.
If there is any sanity left in Washington, they will
devastate Iran with an all-out conventional attack.
Iran as a country will not hesitate to suicide-bomb
their entire nation as long as the can bring down the
Great Satans of US and Israel. I am afraid Israel will
have to start it by themselves because they see that
there is NO alternative now. It is 3 seconds to midnight.
