Japan logs record GDP drop

TOKYO (Reuters) Japan's economy shrank a record 4.0 percent in the first quarter as domestic demand and investment buckled, threatening to crush any export-led rebound later this year.
The data did add to growing evidence that global trade may have bottomed out in the first quarter. Net exports proved to be less of a drag on the world's second-largest economy than in the previous three months, and companies ran down inventory.
While that lent support to the growing chorus of forecasts that the global economy was pulling out of the dive triggered by the financial crisis, there were grim signals on the outlook for Japan, where GDP is shrinking twice as fast as in the United States.

Somehow I think the Japanese economic contracted at a somewhat quickly pace in, oh, say the 2nd quarter of 1945...

Thanks. China is probaly down as much as Japan since they are both major exporters. Any info on SKorea and Taiwan? I know laptops are selling and Taiwan designs them and makes there there and in China. Also Iphones

The Baltic Dry Index is a pretty good rough indicator of what countries are shipping.
And those numbers are not good.

Inflation in others. Grain prices are up I just saw that in Whole Foods tonight. And gasoline prices are up I topped off my tank
