Carla Bruni criticises Pope Benedict XVI
The Telegraph ^ | May 19, 2009 | Henry Samuel

Carla Bruni has issued a scathing attack on Pope Benedict XVI saying that she has allowed her Catholic faith to lapse because of his approach to contraception in Africa.

France's First Lady said that the Church's teachings had left her feeling "profoundly secular".

She departed from her post's traditional religious neutrality to accuse the Pope of "damaging" countries in Africa with his stance on birth control.

Mrs Bruni-Sarkozy said: "I was born Catholic, I was baptised, but in my life I feel profoundly secular. I find that the controversy coming from the Pope's message – albeit distorted by the media – is very damaging."

"In Africa it's often Church people who look after sick people. It's astonishing to see the difference between the theory and the reality. I think the Church should evolve on this issue. It presents the condom as a contraceptive which, incidentally, it forbids, although it is the only existing protection," she told Femme Actuelle, the women's magazine.

The comments will cause Mr Sarkozy embarrassment in a country where, despite the separation of Church and State, a majority of the population was born Catholic.

The darling Mrs. Bruni needs to realize that the majority of people in Africa turn their countenance to MECCA, not Rome.

Was she “feeling profoundly secular” when she was sleeping with rock stars, posing nude, doing drugs and stealing husbands?

The same ‘faith’ she was practicing while posing nude and running around with rock ‘stars’? Huge loss...

It’s good to know that she was such a devout Catholic until the Pope’s AIDS policy disillusioned her. Who’d have guessed it?

And, by the way, has she looked at the numbers? Does she understand that in African countries where condoms are heavily pushed by IPP, AIDS incidence continues to climb, whereas it has almost been eliminated from the few countries that have been taught faithfulness to marriage and abstinence?

Exactly.

She forgot the old adage: It is more important to be thought a fool then to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

BTW, the governments run those areas of Africa not the church and billions of American tax dollars have been taken to provide free condoms and yet - they don’t seem to be used and that according to this lady is the churches fault.

Not to mention that you have to assume that people ignore the Pope concerning out of wedlock sex suddenly become uber-Catholic when engaging in it.

I suppose the Catholic Church could make a statement that it is not an additional sin to don a condom when engaging in anal sex, as there is no issue of reproduction.

Let me get this straight . . . Carla Bruni, a "Catholic" who now the third wife of a secularized "Catholic" head of government, is going to lecture Pope Benedict XVI about matters of Catholic moral teachings?

ROFL.

Does Africa really have more Muslims than Christians?

According to some census data they do. However, Christianity is making significant gains.

A missionary from Sudan visited our church this past Sunday and informed us that what once was a nation with 5% Christians was now 55%. I have not validated his numbers, but he is on the literal front lines as chaplain in the Sudanese army.

What I have come to realize is that the numbers supporting the Moslem faith are all encompassing. Meaning they include numbers of converts that enter the fold by force. Many Moslems come to the faith upon threat of death, either theirs or someone in their family (I am speaking of Africa) and rarely, if ever, mention how many leave the faith.

Honestly, this is like Clinton lecturing about sexual self discipline. Furthermore, a two thousand year old institution that has been the rock from which other branches of Christianity has sprung does not need to justify itself to a slutty little tart who fancies herself important because of her status as one of Mick Jagger’s many concubines.

LOL that’s exactly what came to mind for me too! :0)

Sounds like Carla is a Susan Sarandon-style “Catholic”: very angry at the church because it didn’t change its teachings to accomodate her bad behavior.
