CORONASeveral thousand people turned out at a rally Saturday hosted by KFI's “The John and Ken Show” to protest proposed state tax increases.
Show co-host Ken Chiampou said he and co-host John Kobylt were giving the crowd an opportunity to voice its anger and opposition to six ballot propositions that, if passed, would raise taxes.
“If you've seen the polls, people are really, really angry at Sacramento,” Chiampou said. “We're in a recession. Who in the world would talk about raising taxes?”
Chiampou and Kobylt estimated the crowd at 5,000; an estimated 8,000 gathered at a similar rally in March in Fullerton.
“For those of you that don't know, the rally in Fullerton was to protest tax increases,” Chiampou told the crowd. “This rally is to destroy the propositions on Tuesday.”
Kobylt led the crowd in a sing-song chant of “No, no, no, no, no, no, no” to show how they felt voters should vote on Propositions 1A through 1F in Tuesday's Special Election.
Kobylt said the purpose of the rally was to let people vent their frustration over the possibility of increased taxes and to let elected officials know how taxpayers felt.
“The only thing we can do is make a lot of noise today,” Kobylt said, “and then go out and destroy the propositions on Tuesday.”
An hour into the three-hour rally, a line of cars backed up as they tried to exit the 15 freeway.
Jeri Edwards of Yorba Linda said the wait was worth it.
“It's time to come out and support ‘no' on the propositions,” Edwards said. “It's now or never. Do you want taxes to go up? I don't.”

One man’s sin and another man’s tax. Conservatives and libertarians went along enthusatically with the tax on smokers. Now their ox is being gored by the camel under the tent.

Corona is a pretty nice place. Downtown sucks, but what downtown doesn't? But even downtown has it's finer points, like "Annie Get Your Gun" Gun shop.
Corona, CA you say? My family lived in one of the towns surrounding Twenty-nine Palms Marine Training Base (not sure of it’s full name), in Twenty-nine Palms itself. When I was born, Dad drove Mom through the mountains and hills into Corona.
There were no hospitals in the area that they could get to in a hurry. (there was a small clinic, but it was a very little town after all)There was one in Corona, Corona Naval Hospital. It had been built originally as a big, swanky resort that the rich and famous of the 20s and 30s stayed at. It’s still there, I believe, but is no longer a hospital.
I’ve never had the chance to go back there, or at least that I remember! I rarely ever hear about it in the news; that’s why it caught my eye!

They had an old Naval hospital there at one time, called Corona Naval Hospital. I was born in it myself. It’s still there, but not a hospital anymore. See my first post for a bit of interesting history I found on it, unless you already know about it?

I heard that Corona is getting all of the gang bangers from LA moving there due to the cheap housing. What I know about Corona I remember from a quick drive-through about five years ago (I stopped at a Safeway there). I'm sure there are some nice sections there however, as it is a pretty big place.
I haven't seen 'em. Not in Corona. Central Corona (actually North Corona) has its fair share of illegal aliens and anchor babies, but I haven't noticed any uptick in gang activity here. I've been here 20 years and I still don't lock my door.
