Obama Honor Puts Notre Dame's Catholic Standing at Risk

Catholics and critics debate the lasting effect of President Obama's 2009 commencement address and the university's awarding of an honorary law degree.

...

But long after Obama leaves South Bend, Catholics and members of the Notre Dame community will debate the president's 2009 commencement address and the university's awarding of an honorary law degree.

And the appearance could have a lasting effect on the school's standing in the Catholic community.

According to organizers of ReplaceJenkins.com, a Web site critical of Notre Dame President Rev. John Jenkins' decision to host President Obama, more than 1,400 pledges have been received from alumni and donors promising to withhold future donations, a tally of nearly $14 million.

... eannette Niezgodski, of South Bend, Ind., said the decision will have a lasting and immediate affect on her family's previously close connection to the university.

"My mom, we buy her Notre Dame tickets every year, and that's not going to happen anymore," she said. "And when we get home, we're going to burn all our Notre Dame apparel and there will be no more funding from any of us or anyone I know."

Maybe people should cancel invites to "Rudy" to give talks. The real life "Rudy" has been silent on this.

He is a "motivational speaker" for businesses...

Notre Dame can now assume the mantle of leadership of squishy “faith when it’s convenient” Catholicsim.

Maybe the federal government can take it over, just like they did GM and Chrysler.

“And the appearance could have a lasting effect on the school’s standing in the Catholic community.”

Obama could have easily canceled his appearance, perhaps calming the waters, showing that he represents ALL of the People.

Instead, Obama chose to take a stand as the man holding the most powerful office in the world, allowing his presence to demonstrate his belief and support for the killing of babies and his complete lack of support for the sanctity of life.

It will not matter what Obama reads from his TelePrompTer, his presence alone is deafening.

If I were a Muslim, I would celebrate today as the day that Obama willing plunged a knife into the heart of the Catholic Church.

Obama had it within his power the ability to stop the bleeding, the pain, dismemberment and the deaths of millions of babies.

Does Jesus weep?

The chosen one demonstrated his “love” for religion by canceling the NATIONAL PRAYER DAY, way to honor the devil ND!

What's Catholic about it, beside the name, a degenerate priest-president, and the touchdown jesus? Other than that it sounds and acts like a thoroughly secular godless institution--say, Southern Cal with crappy weather.

Amazing. That alone should have caused the Church to turn on this clown.

ND is doing nothing more than exhibiting what has happened to the catholic vote over the decades. Those claiming to be Catholics have been voting for democrats—the folks who promote, defend, and empower themselves using the slaughter of alive unborn people—too long to change now. ND is merely giving catholics (and yes, I purposely didn't use a capital “C”) what they have shown they like, dead souls serving satanic goals pretending to be ‘good’. ND ceased to value Catholic values long ago, it just takes a while toget it all exposed.

Maybe "Radio Veritas-Asia" would be a good vehicle for people to donate to in lieu of giving money to Notre Dame...

It broadcasts from a "spiritually secure" location -- the Philipines -- which as a Nation observes the 3 o'clock moment of Divine Mercy. People stop at their jobs in this country and meditate on the Passion of Jesus at 3 o'clock.

The website is: rveritas-asia.org (Radio Veritas - Asia)

It’s not the “Church” that invited him -— it’s the ND President and Trustees. Actual Church authorities (Bishop D’Arcy, USCCB, Vatican officials like Abp Raymond Burke who spoke out) -— were all agin’ him/

I’ve always thought the Philippines would be a good place to live if we had to get out of the USA. Beautiful mountains, tropical maritime climate, coherent Catholic culture, pro-life, healthy birthrate, and -— if you keep away from the Muslim throat-cutters in the south-— very nice people.

I agree... I knew a very holy priest from the Philippines.

His first assignment was to convert Muslims in the Philippines... This priest was robbed in Dallas, Texas.

During the robbery, his guardian angel told him not to give the robber his wallet/money. The priest was somewhat shocked by this, especially since the robber was pointing a gun at the priest. The priest obeyed his guardian angel because his Guardian Angeal was appearing to him.

This priest was Father Santos Mendoza. I don't know if he is in the Dallas area any more...

He did not give the robber his wallet, and he did not get shot, but there is more to this story that I am reluctant to post here about...

That's encouraging, if true and significant.

Obama owes them now, for giving him Catholic creds.

They might as well have sainted him.

He will probably give them a few billion from his (our)taxpayer bag of money.

The website: ReplaceJenkins.com used only donations to be withheld that they could verify, and that was the number as of May 13 ($13.9 million). On April 27, the number was $8.2 million.

With all the negative publicity (in the minds of Catholics) that Notre Dame is receiving, I imagine the number will climb...

Well that is great.

I imagine ND doesn’t mind though, they pleased the king.

That’s all that matters, honoring their Boss.
