US won't let Israel into F-35 computer
Jerusalem Post ^ | 5/7/2009 | YAAKOV KATZ

A refusal by the United States to allow Israel to repair computer systems in the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) is at the heart of disagreements between the Defense Ministry and the Pentagon that have been holding up an official Israeli order for the fifth-generation fighter jet.

American opposition to the integration of Israeli systems into the plane

Why? Israel has been modifying their F-15s and F-16s for decades.

Mohammad’s (Obama’s) revenge? Might have gotten the sequence backwards … but you get the drift. ;-)

A short term issue, once The One's tax proposals are in place, we'll have to let Israel fix our computors. Or India, or Ireland. It's not like any right minded tech company will stay in this country. Or bank. We'll probably keep the electric utilities, it's really hard to move those plants. Refineries, they may go, but who wants them.

Anyway, that's all off topic.

Don't know much about classified military technology, eh?

Well, when you’re selling the stuff to foreign countries, what’s the point of it being classified?

I kinda assume its the sophmorish-military
mentality, where the code writers expect money
for every cunstomer-wanted change.

powered flight is 100 years old
computers are not new
fly by wire is not new
F-16 style unstable flight is not new
launching a missile by computer is not new

The F-35 was developed with the intent of sharing it between only a select few countries who we believe are friendly enough (read: countries that don’t resell or leak our tech to hostiles) to grant access to the inner workings of the plane. We’re talking England, Australia, etc.

Israel has a history of licensing to China whatever military tech we give or sell them, so if we want the Chinese to deploy our own technology against us, giving Israel access to the F-35 is a great way to do that.

I’d like to see us sell a few dozen F-35s to Poland.

Try Radio Shack. They might have it. If not, try Moscow and Peking. They certainly already have it.

You just proved the point you don’t know much about military technology. Best not embarrass yourself anymore.

Israel could reasonably be expected to resell any tech we give them. Screw them. They shared patriot missle tech with china within a few years of the first iraq war.

If the US itself weren’t letting China steal all its tech directly, I would find it easier to support the US position. Wanna bet china has the program/computer in question already?

I am baffled by freepers who talk openly as if Israel is the ‘friend’ of the US. This is based mainly the on real fact both face militant islam, both politically and (much more for israel) physically. At most they are a co-belligerent in the current problem.

The software is a lot more difficult than pirating copies of MicroSoft Word.

There is a valid reason why we don’t want the Israelis dinking around with the software.

Now they have a choice — take the planes under our conditions or get them from somewhere else.

The problem they have is that the Russians aren’t going to let them into their software package either, and the chinese hardware isn’t good enough. Plus, who knows what kind of backdoors the Russians and the Chinese will put in their planes.

Sooner or later, the Israelis will buy US planes.

Well, I do think Israel is our ally, and it’s important for a variety of reasons we support them. (And vice-versa, it’s important for them that they support us.) But that doesn’t mean we have to give them cutting-edge technology that we know will get exported.
