Arlen, lie down with dogs and you will wake up with fleas. Oh, Arlen will do fine. He may be a dem but if they shaft him he can shaft them right back still. For example, he hasn't committed on card check. Now that he's a dem they expect him to vote for cloture and block a filibuster. Well, maybe he will ... and maybe he won't.

Yeah, down the road when Specter is out of the lime light, what’s the best way to get in front of the cameras again? Make some waves!

I agree that the voters of PA are stupid, but what about those of Mass, Maine, Oregon, Vermont and so many others? Are they any less responsible for the plight we find ourselves in?

Well, the only reason I singled out PA was b/c the article was about Specter. The wider view would include nearly the entire country as you point out, The electorate generally seems stuck on stupid considering they send people to DC who don’t represent their interests. Then theres the last pres election...no argument from me.

My position on Arlene has not changed - he was always one of those fabled “economically conservative otherwise moderate Republicans” who manage to retain only a certain small subset (consistent across all of such weasels) of the “economically conservative” qualifications (weak on income taxes, corporate subsidies, and entitlement spending, better on Rockefeller-type economic issues like inheritance, capital gains taxes, etc), and more corporatist than free-market capitalist. IOW, I always (politically) hated his guts.
I just find it strange that so much venom is being levied at Specter recently - his voting habits have not changed, his rhetoric has not changed. He only changed party labels, with all of his meaningful political properties remaining the same. The symbolism just doesn’t register on my give-a-s*** meter. He made the switch to avoid being ruined by a Republican in the upcoming primary (and now faces as great a threat in the Democrat primary from former vice admiral Joe Sestak). It is almost enough to squeeze from my darkened heart a few cc of pity.

I suspect Junior Democratic Senator Specter may be meeting with a ‘ tragic fatal accident’ in a dark alley sometime soon, in that case! :-o

Specter sees himself as a $1000 an hour escort, the dems see him as a crack whore. And the dems are calling it right.
I think somebody owes all those crack whores an apology.

Well, with his public comments, I’ve wondered the same thing for a long time. And that made me question the sanity of party leaders who would put up with him.
Well said.
