SEAL BEACH City Council members have unanimously approved displaying the national motto, "In God We Trust" in the council chambers.
The council is expected to consider design and cost options at a later meeting. City officials said the cost could range from $350 to $3,500.
Seal Beach will be the 12th Orange County city to display the motto. The others are Cypress, Fountain Valley, Huntington Beach, Los Alamitos, Mission Viejo, Rancho Santa Margarita, San Clemente, Tustin, Villa Park, Westminster and Yorba Linda.
Some cities have raised the issue that posting the motto could be a conflict between the Constitutional separation of church and state. Others say the motto is a historic and patriotic expression, city officials said.

The First Amendment states "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof". I do not see where the First Amendment mentions the Seal Beach City Council. The Constitution works when we stick to what it says and do not make up thinks it does not say. I'm beginning to wonder if most Americans, especially on the left, have ever read the Constitution. Ignorance is rampant.
If the Anointed ones Government doesnt see a conflict of interest taking over a business, I cant see any problem by displaying In God we trust Better to trust in God than in our government which seems to be hell bent on sending us down in to the abyss of socialism initiated and perpetuated by ignorant voters.
Seal Beach is the coolest city in the world. 1/3 Navy, 1/3 elderly, and 1/3 residential - families, singles, etc.
"Well your honor ... if not God, who" ?
The State?
The government?
The bank?
mankind?
you?
I (we) will gladly switch out to a higher, more righteous entity ... just tell us who it is?
If you don't know ... you have no right to attempt to adjudicate the matter ... it's above your pay grade"
The Constitution is meant to protect freedom of religion, including freedom FROM religion should that be the citizen's choice.
In Notes on Virginia (1782), Thomas Jefferson said:
The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbour to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg.
City councils have spent money on much worse, though, for absolute sure, so I wouldn't complain too loudly.
Let's try
- by the same folks, and for the same reason - good politics.
Why do I always see the spelling errors AFTER I post ??
