This is really kind of mind numbing and demonstrates what is wrong with Congress.
During a House Judiciary Committee meeting, Congressman Steve King (R-IA) offered up an amendment to the hate crimes bill to exclude pedophiles from being a protected category under the hate crimes legislation.
Every single Democrat voted it down.
In the same meeting, Congressman Tom Rooney (R-FL) offered an amendment to include veterans as a class protected under the hate crimes bill. Not only did the Democrats vote it down, but Cogresswoman Debbie Waasserman Schultz attacked the Republicans for even thinking veterans might need protection under hate crimes legislation. After all, who but Democrats in Congress hate veterans?
They also hate children, apparently. But we've known that for over thirty years.

So if someone sees a known pedophile, who may have attempted to attack someone he knows, and beats him up, that is a hate crime and subject to harsher penalties. Where does “crime of passion” and leniency therefor, separate from “hate crime?”
My God, protecting predators as a protected class???
This is still in committee. Despite the media pro-homo frenzy I think most Americans still have a problem with homosexual acts. But it will be interesting to see what “moderate” demrats do with it if it gets to the a floor vote.
WOW and I always thought it was equal protection under the law.
If anyone questions whether Democrats are on the side of evil this settles the matter.

By and large this is what Democrats do with few exceptions.
Baucus and Testor of Montana have gone out of their way to help Montana veterans with combat related issues. Baucus has gone to bat for me and helped with “baggage” I brought home from Iraq.
The direction the government is headed now that was to be expected. Every devant and perverse act known to man and some that are not will soon be legal and protected by law. Only those who speak out against them will be prosecuted.
Hell, most of the people voted to bring this crap about anyway. The people spoke on November 4, 2008 as to what they wanted. The got and are getting it now.

What does this mean exactly? Does it mean if I go beat up a pedophile that I cannot be charged in a hate crime?
I thought hate crimes were supposed to protect certain civil rights of protected classes of people (e.g. blacks, etc.) and now pedophiles are a protected class????

G-D SOB’s!!!!!! My only consolation is what Our Lord said in the book of Matthew about it being better to be drowned with a millstone about one’s neck than to harm or lead astray a child...............I hope hell has a special place for pedophiles and for these Congressional creeps........

I’m with you Rhino. Honestly, I say screw the Tea Parties. I think we should descend on the offices of our individual Congressmen and Senators. I don’t see why we have to have an appointment. It’s outrageous. We should storm the halls. They are NOT listening.
I am so disgusted with this and so much more.
Heck, he’s just one of many. It’s our elected representatives in Congress and The Senate - they are out of control and we need to wipe all of them out - each and every one who is voting this way.
What it means is that say you catch a molester in the act. Or you catch the guy on the sex offender list, who lives a block away, looking in your kids window.
You beat him up good. Then you make the mistake of telling the cop that you got in a few extra punches to “teach that damned pedophile a lesson”.
Bada Bing* you just confessed to, and can be charged with a FEDERAL hate crime. But dont worry, Federal prosecutors *never* go after the good guys, just ask the Border Patrol.
Oh no, "fisting" is a very normal form of sexual interaction between men (runs, barfs repeatedly, finishes typing).
