Specter hints Kemp died of GOP agenda
The Washington Times ^ | May 4, 2009 | Tom LoBianco

Sen. Arlen Specter, Pennsylvania Democrat, said part of the reason that he left the Republican Party last week was disillusionment with its health-care priorities, and suggested that had the Republicans taken a more moderate track, Jack Kemp may have won his battle with cancer.

Mr. Specter, responding to a question from CBS' Bob Schieffer over whether he had let down Pennsylvanians who wanted a Republican to represent them, said he thought his priorities were more in line with those of the Democrats.

"Well, I was sorry to disappoint many people. Frankly, I was disappointed that the Republican Party didn't want me as their candidate," Mr. Specter said on "Face the Nation." "But as a matter of principle, I'm becoming much more comfortable with the Democrats' approach. And one of the items that I'm working on, Bob, is funding for medical research."

Mr. Specter continued: "If we had pursued what President Nixon declared in 1970 as the war on cancer, we would have cured many strains. I think Jack Kemp would be alive today. And that research has saved or prolonged many lives, including mine."

Mr. Kemp died Saturday of cancer. He had been the running mate of 1996 Republican presidential candidate Bob Dole.

As if there aren’t enough reasons to make sure that Specter gets defeated in the 2010 elections, these stupid comments should be in every campaign commercial by Pat Toomey. What a jerk Specter has become.

within 2 years Specter will get to experience obama care.

and under socialized medicine don’t we just know what priority for agressive treatment will be given to 82 yr old cancer victims?

The new Christopher Reeve. I wonder how Jack Kemp would feel about being a new poster child for socialized medicine?

This isn't the first time he's made a comment like this. Specter is the poster boy for secular humanism. The man has no soul.

No he won't Congress gets a medical plan that would make your jaw drop - for life. so Spectre’s point is pointless as usual.

If you're a Democrat cancer patient, you'll have no worries.

If you're a Conservative cancer patient, start picking out a coffin.

"Means testing" will, inevitably, include who and what you are and not just the chances for full recovery.

Do we have anyone who can articulate that the dem plan means WORSE healtcare for everyone??

They want to “reduce costs” while extending the same system to everyone. And Obama wants to discourage doctors from becoming specialists and pay GP’s more. I kid you not.

Specter keeps digging his own political grave. He should have shut up after saying he’s switching parties solely because he can’t win by fooling the good folks in PA again. RINO’s bother me more than leftwing zealots.

Now I finally have the answer as to WHY my GP supports Obama. THANK YOU!

According to SourceWatch, between 1971 and 1999, Americans had spent over $200 billion dollars on cancer research with little to show for it.

I am one of the skeptics that wonders if researchers would welcome a cure for cancer. There are many who claim there are already natural cures but are hidden. http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=War_on_Cancer

Of course, this completely overlooks the fact that there is absolutely NO provision in the US Constitution that suggests the Federal Government should be involved in ANY WAY with fundamental medical research, or ANY research of any sort.

And, Arlen ought to just shut up. He’s made his choice. To use the death of a man such as Jack Kemp as a tool to advance a political agenda is simply insane.
