Reagan split the youth vote in '80 and won it convincingly in '84 and his coattails brought the youth vote to Bush in '88. That youth vote, as manifest as a strong college Republican presence throughout the '80s, buoyed the GOP for the next 15-20 years.

While the Dems have been winning the 18-29 ever since, it's Obama 30+ point advantage that is an ominous sign for the GOP. While Carville's 45 year prediction is foolish, anyone who doesn't think that the Dems will enjoy a significant advantage the next 20 years is whistling past the graveyard.

MONEY QUOTE:

"How the Democrats Will Rule the Next Generation"

Liberals don't think in terms of getting elected to serve the nation and the American people.

They think in terms of RULING us.

I don't think it will last that long.....

.....The radical left agenda of taxing energy, shutting down power plants, and polluting the landscape everywhere with windmills and solar panels while having to institute the stupid smart grid to limit demand will not get very far.

There will be a BIG backlash as the evidence that the premise for this radical plan, saving the planet from AGW, is nonsense and will not change climate change ONE BIT.

People get cranky, especially idealist young kids who have their video games and reality TV shows shut off by the stupid smart grid. They just don't know what they are asking for yet.

"And I guarantee the Democrats will be the dominant party for the next forty years!"

Really?.. if Obama stays tied to his teleprompters and we lose America to the 1960s Marxist, hippy street rabble and their ideological issue.

I've heard audio of him speaking about how he really feels. He's good. For example, his feeeeeeeeelings about the shortcomings of our Constitution; to wit, not enough emphasis on economic justice. No need for "uhs" and "ums" while he's figuring out how to say something without revealing himself.

No teleprompter needed when Obama expounds Marxist, anti-American feelings -- he's a gifted speaker. The teleprompter merely reins in his lifetime of conditioning and keeps him on safe grounds

What a revealing choice of words “Democrats Will Rule”, not serve, not even be elected, but RULE. I have total disgust for the idiots who elected this joker and his puppetmaster. For what they truly did was elect a One Worlder named Soros.

“If the Republicans play their cards right, Obamanation will have it’s wings clipped in 2010. I’m just not convinced the Republican party has a clue these days though.”

In 2010 it will be 435 House contests, and 33 Senate contests, along with all of the state races.

The candidates will stand usually one against one.

The dems will still be trying to associate the GOP candidate with “the failed Bush years.”

The results will turn on the skill and ability of the GOP candidate to make his/her own case for themselves.

The voters in the district will decide bsed on what they hear, read. (It isn’t likely the RNC will influence them, except by way of fund allocations. An exception would be a particularly strong message, messenger))

Hopefully by then the dems will stumble, and the GOP will get some fresh ammo.

Haley Barbour and Ed Gillespie stood out as good voices, for Republicans. Others awful, Duncan being the last and worst.

Opportunities to speak for the party usually go to the RNC chairman, the Minority leader of the Senate and the Minority leader of the House.

Steele, McConnell, Boehner. Are they good enough to assist the candidate in your district, with hard hitting message?

More importantly, is your candidate?

Finally, some discouraging data.

I agree, the train wreck has started, we are watching it in slow motion, just like Carter.

Congratulations, Democrats. You've got the pilot, the co-pilot, a majority of the passengers and, with Arlen Specter, 60% of the stewardesses on Flight 2009-2010.
The only thing about Carville I'd enjoy reading would be his obit.

I hope it runs the same day as Jane Fonda’s.

Excellent article by Kyle Smith!

The word "arrogant" doesn't even begin to describe James Carville!

I don’t see anyone connecting like Gingrich’s Contract with America these days. And that’s really a shame considering what the House and Senate have to deal with.

It’s unimaginable that we don’t have leaders with the gonads to take on the left. Never has there been more fertile ground.

Sure our reps are responsible for their own districts, but I’m not confident the Republican leadership will truly help the Conservatives. If you’re a Conservative these days, you’re essentially on your own. And I mean, cut loose, jettisoned into the stratosphere, and space walking without a space suit.

I included the link, because I feel careful study will convince even stalwart “conservatives” about the predicament they are in.

I live in Dana Rohrbacher’s district, where he get re-elected with ease. BUT the margin is slipping.

I think the slipping margin is evidence that the GOP is losing ground, because it is seen as backward looking, is seen as anti-immigrant, is seen as anti minority, is seen as anti-gay, is seen as pushing religion into the public arena, and so forth.

Notice I said “is seen as” because I think the opponents have successfully defined conservatism with several negatives, which are hard to overcome.

Combine that with the age ethnic demographics, and it will be very hard to avoid the predictions of Carville.

So give Gingrich credit for stepping up to the plate. The Tea Party activity is a good start.

The recent confab with Jeb Bush, Romney, Canter etc. is good too, because it keeps these faces in the news.

This website has become almost useless, because of the anti-McCain echo chamber rants.

There is about 1 percent substantive discussion, and it is hardly worth the time to sort through to find it.
