Rand Paul, son of former Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul, says he is poised to enter the race for U.S. Sen. Jim Bunning's seat.
Paul, who has been stumping across Kentucky, told The Associated Press that "every bone in my body says there is going to be a race." But the Bowling Green physician said he won't run unless Bunning opts out.
Paul is a fan of Bunning's conservative fiscal philosophy and said he simply wants to be ready to jump into the race quickly if the 77-year-old senator decides to retire instead of seeking re-election next year.
Bunning has said repeatedly that he intends to run for a third term.
ROFL
He looks like he’s not wrapped too tight.
YES, better him than a RINO and he’s more eloquent than his father. Go RAND!
Trey Grayson is already waiting in the wings.

And let's not forget his, um, "brother," Ru.
He’s a good person, he even has some of his father mannerisms and the arched eyebrow. I think the Senate is too big a leap for him, he should go for a Congressional seat.
Trey Greyson is not the republican candidate until he earns it. There is a primary, it’s not a coronation.
What’s he a doctor of? Unless he’s an MD, I don’t see much point in calling him Dr.
Hey, it could be worse. At least Alan Keyes isn’t running.

“Paul has a private ophthalmology practice in Bowling Green, Kentucky.”
The US house seat now being held by a republican (Brett Guthrie) who just won it. He won’t be able to win that next time around since Brett Guthrie is not going to step out of the way and let him have it. Paul could win the KY house seat easily next time around. It was Brett Guthrie’s seat and is being held by a rat. The republicans lost it in a special election because they ran a ambulance chaser. I don’t think Paul wants it though.
I messed up the seat in question was a KY senate seat.
What does this offspring of an embarrassing dope have to offer other than being the offspring of an embarrassing dope? Does he want to join his paleodaddy and Weepy Walter Jones in supporting earmarks, shrimpin' subsidies, left wing foreign policy, surrendermonkeyism, anti-Americanism and our nation's enemies? Americans want to know.
Only you want to know, ya nut.
It says 2008. Is that right, or a mistake for 2009?
True enough. I would enjoy the debates, but I’d bet Grayson wins.
no, I doubt it’s a mistake these things were quietly happening in 2008 as well, though on a much smaller scale (I think mostly connected with the Ron Paul movement)..wasn’t involved in them then, but since I have seen some videos on Rand Paul and am really sold on him, I live in Indiana, if he runs, I may have to take a trip down to the Blue Grass state and help out..!

(Posted to GoldStandard by accident, instead)!
On the otherhand the video does seem to have been posted in March of this year, so..I don’t know.
Thanks for the info. Just a bad picture here.
A Kentucky Ping.
If he is as comitted to abolishing abortion as his father, I will support him vigorously.
Paul Ping
He does sound like a good man to have, I hope he does well.
No thanks. One Paul is one too many.
Good. We need more real conservatives and fewer party tools. Not to disparage Bunning necessarily, but Paul looks like a much better choice than the typical jagoff candidate suggested by the RNC.
Maybe someone of similar inclination will run for a FL Senate seat. We have two that we aren’t really using right now...
Alan Keyes is the reason FR was catapulted into the national spotlight in 98, in case you’ve forgotten.
Like his father, he's an MD.

Thanks for the ping. I would rather keep Bunning. He’s dependable, he’s spot on regarding all the bailout mania; saw the economic crisis coming long before anyone and was ridiculed for it. I didn’t care much for Ron Paul, but admittedly know little of Rand Paul. I’ll listen and consider him, but I’m not pleased that Bunning is being treated the way he has been in the least (and that isn’t Paul’s fault; that’s all on Mitch!)
I don't have time today to go through it, but if I lived in Kentucky I sure would in order to decide if this guy is worth reelecting -- or whether there is a better choice.
After the shameful career of paleoPaulie, the two-faced Galveston treason weasel and phony extraordinaire, we don't need his virus spreading to other states through his offspring. Kentucky can do quite nicely, thank you, without Dr. Rand Paul seeking Republican nominations.
What's with his first name, btw, is he named for Ayn Rand, serial adulterer, atheist and abortion advocate? And you think I am a nut????
The Ron Pauls will no more defend the babies than they will defend our country or abolish shrimpin' earmarks for Galveston-Houston.
BTW, why would Rand Paul be any more effective against our nation's domestic enemies than he would against its foreign enemies?
Most people who ARE Republicans would not be caught dead voting for any of the Pauls. (See last year's POTUS primaries and their massive rejection of Papa Loon).
I’m not jumping in until I knownmore about his position on those key issues we have with his dad and if he is smart enough to distance himself from nuts like Alex Jones, Lewellan Rockwell, Don Black, Jamie Kelso, and Ron’s other puppet masters. Randolph may be different.
Very true. However, it is troubling that Rand Paul decided to start his campaign by putting out information that was not true. He said Grayson was filing to try to push Senator Bunning out of the race and was being disrespectful. Bunning himself encouraged Grayson to start the Exploratory Committee - Paul is so far acting like a loose cannon, personally attacking Grayson for no apparent reason other than he happens to be another person interested in running for the seat.
He should go for one of the state constitutional offices in 2011 - Secretary of State (Grayson is term limited so that seat will be open), Auditor, Treasurer, or Ag. Commissioner. We could certainly use a good auditor to track down misuse of government funds and keep people on their toes...plenty of that going around.
I totally agree about Bunning and his dependability as a strong conservative - unfortunately he really damaged himself in the last race with the teleprompter controversy, saying his opponent resembles one of Saddam’s sons, and now more recently yelling G.D. publicly at a reporter and making comments about what he believes was the impending death of Justice Ginsburg. No one ever said he was a nice guy - in fact he’s quite a jerk - but I do appreciate his stands on the issues and his personality is not why I support him. Unfortunately, that other stuff matters just as much, if not more, in a campaign - it is perception. McConnell can be blamed for some things, but he didn’t make Bunning do those things.
McConnell, unfortunately, has a history of cutting the throats of incumbent Republicans. I’m through with Mitch.
I agree with Bunning not being a nice guy and having poor PR; but let me say for what it’s worth, as an avid writer and corresponder to my Congressmen and Senators, Governors and Presidents; Sen. Bunning has the greatest staff. McConnell’s staff hung up on me on several ocassions, before I could get out anything other than the fact I was calling about the bailout. I know public perception and personality matter, however, I will see I do believe Bunning at least is attentive to what his constituents want. I don’t blame Mitch for Sen. Bunning’s publicity problems; I do blame him for pumping money AWAY from Bunning and I blame him for helping elect Govenor Bashear.

Since you asked, yeah I do.
I’ve known staffers for both McConnell and Bunning over the years and they are always helpful I’ve never been dismissed by either but on the other hand Geoff Davis UGH both he and his staffers totally suck.
I’ll put your concerns on my list of things to worry about and, with the help of an unexpected string of miracle breakthroughs in medicine generally, I will try to notice when I am 175 years old or so, Zippy. Gotta keep things in order of actual importance. Ron Paul is an obviously overheated birdbrain. Did the Rand apple fall far from the tree?
Youre an idiot.
