Grandpa: 'Good to be home' from Mexican jail (pneumonia?)
KOO TV/Seattle PI ^ | April 25 | Staff

An 88-year-old grandfather is back in Western Washington today after spending several weeks in a rat-infested Mexican jail on what he says were trumped-up charges.

...Mexican officials released him a few weeks ago from a border-town jail where he had been held since January. Since his release, Chrisman has been recovering from pneumonia in Arizona...Ed Chrisman had been spending his winter in Yuma, Ariz., when his grandson invited him along on a trip to get inexpensive dental treatment in Mexico, the family said.

The two were arrested after a woman complained to police that the Americans asked her 13-year-old to pose naked, according to a Mexican police news Web site that focuses on crimes in the Mexicali area.

Sorry, but they should have known better. Mexico is no place for Americans.

Er, AND the possibility that the two were child molesters.

If that is the case, why no trial? Mexico pretty corrupt.

"He's that way," said Don. "Out of the goodness of his heart, he gave them $25 and then the mother - she wanted more money, and he said, 'No Way.'"

It's hard to figure out who's telling the truth here. It just seems a bit odd to drag an 88 year old man down to Mexico- for any reason.

I agree. One drink of water and the old guy is toast.

You’d be surprised how many Americans go to Algadones for docs, dentists and meds. Idiots is the correct word.

Did the camera have pictures of nude kids on it or not?

Actually many dentists get their education and license in the United States. My family lives on a border town and have spent the last 50 years going over to Mexico for a variety of needs.

And no proof - only the mother’s say so once she didn’t get ‘more money’.

Possibly corrupt. Possibly lack of evidence.

Easy to make a charge, true or not. Harder to prove the charge.

My brother thought he got a good deal on dental trement in mexico untill 6 years later when he started to have trouble with a tooth he had capped down there . He saved 500 dollars at the time.

Now it is going to cost him about 1500 to get the drill bit they broke off inside his tooth removed and have the tooth fixed.

He is not singing the praises of Mexican dentists now.

I have spent the last 50 years (no, exclude the last 10 from that) going to Mexican border towns for things like pottery, Mexican dresses, tacos, Mexican music and dancing the chicken dance, but NEVER would I go the doctor or dentist there.

We stopped at a Mexican pharmacy one time because I had a headache and I was sold a little white pill that got rid of my headache but it also gave me the ability to fly.

If I had ever taken another one I would have been addicted. As soon as I got my bearings back I flushed the rest of the bottle. All I wanted was an Excedrin.

Uh, read the whole story. Something sounds fishy!

From the story, “The two men were accused of offering young girls 200 pesos to take nude photos, the site said, prompting police to confiscate a camera and take the case to the Public Ministry on charges of child pornography.

Family members said Chrisman did give some girls $25 to take their picture, but not in the nude.

“He’s that way,” said Don. “Out of the goodness of his heart, he gave them $25 and then the mother - she wanted more money, and he said, ‘No Way.’”

That seems to be the question, doesn't it? No pictures = shakedown, in my estimation.
