News media loves manufactured stories to create fear. This gets viewers and sells newspapers. They are desperate.

Working name: 0bamacoccus. I guess we got that to look forward to. How about some researcher name his latest virus discovery after the Messiah. Surely a mere lichen doesn’t pay sufficient homage.

I was at my house down on the Baja, and I got hit with the worst allergic reaction I've ever had... Mesquite was flowering early, and I had no idea I was allergic to it.
It seemed to be bothering the hell out of others too.

This is serious.

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control said the “novel” A/H1N1 influenza identified in at least two of the recent cases by US counterparts might have a risk of developing into a pandemic-type virus.

“The infection of humans with a novel influenza A virus infection of animal origins as has happened here is of concern because of the risk, albeit small, that this could represent the appearance of viruses with pandemic potential,” the ECDC said on its website.

Heck, bring the infected people here. Obomas Universal Heath Care will cover it all. No problem.

Actually, the World Health Organization rarely chimes in on phony claims.

..."At least 24 cases have been reported in the central region, while four have been reported in the north. The mystery illness has led to at least 20 deaths in the country"

Twenty deaths in adults who would ordinarily be healthy is a major concern. Most common strains of influenza will afflict the old and very young in a population. When your average healthy adult is being stricken and death is occurring, they have to pay close attention.

Containing such a strain in this day and age is difficult, but Canada has already experienced a SARS breakout, so hopefully we're better prepared this time. Banning all travel to Mexico seems like the logical thing to do, but they haven't done it yet.

Say what you will. Most of these stories did not come from the president’s beloved MSM, but from overseas news sources. In fact, the US news and govt agencies have been pretty quiet until now (this has been brewing for a few weeks). I believe Fox and CNN just started mentioning it yesterday.

Mexico has closed all the schools and universities in Mexico City and the surrounding area. This could be worse than they are saying. I wonder if they have sent samples of this flu bug to the CDC for identification.

Is there salt cedar there, too? In New Mexico, Texas and Colorado, it grows in the same regions as salt cedar and can cause symptoms as bad or worse than mesquite.

I’m following this developing story closely. I’ve read that this strain has genetic components from avian flu, swine flu, and human flu. Also, the swine flu part is of the europe and asian type, not the north american type.
