AP Poll: Americans high on Obama, direction of US
Associated Press ^ | April 23, 2009 | Ron Fourner and Trevor Tompson

Posted on 04/23/2009 2:04:24 AM PDT by Zakeet

For the first time in years, more Americans than not say the country is headed in the right direction, a sign that Barack Obama has used the first 100 days of his presidency to lift the public's mood and inspire hopes for a brighter future.

Intensely worried about their personal finances and medical expenses, Americans nonetheless appear realistic about the time Obama might need to turn things around, according to an Associated Press-GfK poll. It shows most Americans consider their new president to be a strong, ethical and empathetic leader who is working to change Washington.

Nobody knows how long the honeymoon will last, but Obama has clearly transformed the yes-we-can spirit of his candidacy into a tool of governance. His ability to inspire confidence — Obama's second book is titled "The Audacity of Hope" — has thus far buffered the president against the harsh political realities of two wars, a global economic meltdown and countless domestic challenges.

"He presents a very positive outlook," said Cheryl Wetherington, 35, an independent voter who runs a chocolate shop in Gardner, Kan. "He's very well-spoken and very vocal about what direction should be taken."

Other AP-GfK findings could signal trouble for Obama:

_While there is evidence that people feel more optimistic about the economy, 65 percent said it's difficult for them and their families to get ahead. More than one-third know of a family member who recently lost a job.

_More than 90 percent of Americans consider the economy an important issue, the highest ever in AP polling.

_Nearly 80 percent believe that the rising federal debt will hurt future generations, and Obama is getting mixed reviews at best for his handling of the issue.

This is a typical MSM/Roper push poll.

Interestingly, the numbers are not altogether good for Obozo as you can see from the Internals.

As to be expected, AP is spinning as hard as they can for the Libtard.

History is replete with totalitarians who were ‘very well-spoken and very vocal about what direction should be taken”. It's so wonderful that we fought and won the cold war so that we could just implement what the other side wanted anyway.

LOL, what a load of liberal crap! A attempt to form opinion rather then measure it (oh, look what everyone else is saying, you don’t want to be out of step with them, do you?)

Then facts are the internals don’t square with the headline in any way that makes sense.

Per the original article...
“It involved telephone interviews on landline and cell phones with 1,000 adults nationwide.”

Now you tell me how a survey of 1000 people can represent the feelings of 350 million.
Like if I pee in the Atlantic, it offends the folks in california!
Anyone could go to a local Target store and get a larger and probably more statistacally significant sample.

There is no forward momentum for Obama. Americans are widely seperated on his tenure thus far and he’s losing his base. He’s gonna fall - hard. What happens when his birth certificate surfaces? And the college records showing that he’s been funded by leftist radicals all his life?

He is like so tainted. I thought Clinton was arrogant. BO makes the Clintons look like saints.

Slight disconnect with Americans then:

While there is evidence that people feel more optimistic about the economy,

65 percent said it's difficult for them and their families to get ahead. More than one-third know of a family member who recently lost a job.

_More than 90 percent of Americans consider the economy an important issue, the highest ever in AP polling.

_Nearly 80 percent believe that the rising federal debt will hurt future generations, and Obama is getting mixed reviews at best for his handling of the issue

Yet the country's headed in the right direction??? Bizarro world indeed!

circumstances are completely different, you should know that. Bush wasn’t particularly liked prior to 9.11 due to the election fiasco. This poll is under different circumstances because now we have a appeasing socialistic game changer in office that a large segment of our country like because they too want to see the USA become the France of North America. These people get up every morning to practice their new yoga move named after Obama. The Obama is where you bend over and grab your ankles.

What in the world do you do with questions like this:

“CURJ12.When it comes to improving the economy, do you think it is realistic to expect at least some noticeable results in the first year of the Obama administration, or do you think it will take longer than that to see any noticeable results?”

How about we see very noticeable results already and they are all negative and it will get worse? Oh gee, that’s not one of the alternatives.

Or this:
“CUR33b. When it comes to solving the country’s economic problems, how much do you think Republicans in Congress are doing to cooperate with Barack Obama? Alot, moderate amount, not enough, etc.”

How about: It is the job of Republicans to vociferously oppose everything the Democrats and Barack Obama are doing, and they are only doing a mediocre job of raising their voices. Oh, that’s not an alternative either?

These questions are rigged so that it is impossible for a conservative to answer them.

Exactly.

And it used to be the opposite with Bush.

Repondents would say their personal life was okay, but they were concerned about the unknown neighbor (the sad sack story they watched on network TV). And vote “wrong direction.”

Now they are having difficult times, but because the media builds up this turd, they say “right direction.”

This is, plain and simple, the effects of propaganda.

As to be expected, AP is spinning as hard as they can for the Libtard.

Normally, I wouldn't have given this article more than 30 seconds of my time, but the audacity of the spin was so breathtaking, I had to keep reading out of sheer fascination.

It's not til almost the end of this lengthy article that "reporters" Ron Fournier and Trevor Thompson disclose that Of those who say the country is on the right track in the AP-GfK poll, 73 percent are Democrats, 17 percent are independents and 10 percent are Republicans. WTF?

Had Fournier and Thompson not had their heads so far up Obama's rear, they might have noted that the figure means that a whopping 90% of Republicans and 83% of independents think the country is on the wrong track and more than a quarter of Obama's own party agrees! At this early stage of the game, losing the confidence of more than a quarter of the people most inclined to give you the benefit of the doubt is a big deal.

And that's if we overlook the laughable breakdown of the sampling. The internals of this poll are startling for their imbalance. The poll had twice as many declared Democrats as Republicans, and a ridiculous 44% of those polled claimed to be independents or have no party affiliation.

He had a 90% favorable rating after 9-11 and, for various reasons, it dropped to less than 30% by the time he left office. If Obama doesn’t manage to turn this economy around (and he won’t), the middle of the road Americans that just wanted to throw Bush out will do the same to Obama. They’re not all long haired, homosexual, pot smoking, hippes with a hardon for Barack Obama though that surely describes many of them.

It's been said "He who robs Peter to pay Paul will always have the support of Paul".

0bama has clearly split the country into "Peters" and "Pauls".

And he is clearly a favorite of the "Pauls".

The Clbuttic Mistake: When obscenity filters go wrong (The Telegraph (London, UK) 9-2-08 Matthew Moore)

The phenomena, known as “The Clbuttic Mistake” after a mangling of the word “classic” that is believed to be the first identified instance of the problem, can be found on tens of thousands of websites.

The error is caused by poorly programmed anti-obscenity filters – similar to spell checkers – that automatically replace words considered rude or offensive with more acceptable variants. “Butt” replaces “ass”...

The problem is fairly widespread; Google searches turn up 3,810 results for “clbuttic”, 5,120 for “consbreastution”, and 1,450 for “Buttociated Press”, a corruption of the US news agency the Associated Press.
