New law to 'manage' 8 million 'volunteers' (Give Act, H.R. 1388)

Obama signs huge expansion of youth brigades legislation

President Obama today signed into law the "GIVE Act," H.R. 1388, which massively expands the National Service Corporation and allocates to it billions of dollars, and one executive for the program now says it will allow for the "managing" of up to 8 or 9 million people.

WND has reported on plans to create the corps since Obama told a campaign stop in Colorado Springs last year he wants a "Civilian National Security Force" as big and as well-funded as the U.S. military.

The bill includes a "National Service Reserve Corps" whose members have completed a "term of national service," "training" and "not less than 10 hours of volunteering each year."

In a conference call with reporters on the plan, Alan Solomont, chairman of the Corporation for National and Community Service, said the 75,000 current members of the AmericCorps program "leverage" about 2.2 million volunteers, and the total of all such volunteers who are managed through the federal program total about 4 million.

He said the possibility with the expanded authorization and funding means that up to 8 or 9 million could be involved.

"If we triple the size of AmeriCorps from 75,000 members to 250,000 members annually, and if we – if those 75,000 AmeriCorps members are currently engaging 2.2. million volunteers a year, we could triple that to 6.6 million volunteers, 250,000 AmeriCorps members. So I think – you can do the math – I think that was about six or seven million, and then we have another half a million in Senior Corps and another million or so in Learn and Serve America [for children]," he said.

WND reported when Obama delivered his Colorado Springs mandate and a copy of the speech provided online

Well already have a “Give Act.” It lives at the IRS and the West Wing of The White House.

Will they wear spiffy uniforms and march lock-step through towns across America praising dear leader and his National Socialist Party?

The road crew in Cool Hand Luke was made up of "volunteers", too. In this case, they won't be paving roads. They'll be manufacturing votes for ACORN.

Welcome to the USSA, Komrades.

Get ready for Obama’s own private military/police force...

Wonder if he’ll call it the Democratic Guard (after Saddam’s Republican Guard)

The Tonton Macoutes (Milice de Volontaires de la Sécurité Nationale, MVSN) was a Haitian militia force created in 1959 and reporting directly to François ‘Papa Doc’ Duvalier until his death in 1971. It was their purpose to capture and carry away any political “enemies” that threatened in any way the continued rule of the President for Life.

It worked well.

The name Tonton Macoute (literally translates as “Uncle Gunnysack”) originated from Haitian Creole mythology. It was the name of a bogeyman who walked the streets after dark, kidnapping children who stayed out too late and stowing them away in his gunnysack, never to be seen again. Those who spoke out against Duvalier would disappear in the night, and would never be seen again. Anyone who spoke about the MVSN risked their own abduction, and so they were referred to as the Tonton Macoutes.

AmeriCorps has been in effect since Clinton and only has 75,000 members.

Zero’s base isn’t the volunteering type. I currently have cut my volunteer hours from 80 per month to 40 per month simply because of age. Most volunteers I know from various organizations are 1) retirees, 2) military from bases doing community service, 3) religious organizations doing everything from paint your heart out to meals on wheels, 4) school kids fulfilling some community service hours to graduate.

Bambi’s base isn’t in there.

What Bambi is attempting is a low-rent WPA a la FDR.

Keep the unemployed kids from rioting, but the only thing that will work, is to DRAFT them and that is political poison.

I am hoping there is something unconstitutional about this (isn’t this the mandatory volunteerism program?), and it will be halted before getting too far. So much for hope. My fear is that it will become exactly what he wants - his personal brain-washed military.

“Far too many Republicans got sucked into voting for this monstrosity.”

Well, they know that there are no jobs out there for the high school graduate with no further schooling, or in many of the cities’ cases, dropouts, which run to 53% and better.
Jobs that were once the province of highschool to work, i.e., manufacturing, building etc, are gone.

What do you do with a demographic nightmare?

This is chicken*&&& way to attempt to keep them off the streets.

I remember the Tontons well. Frightening group of SOBs with all the authority they needed to conduct their reign of terror.

Good note.
