'Ammunition Accountability' Legislation. (No ammo sales after 6/30/2009)

Nobody can sell any ammunition after June 30, 2009.
It has already started: 'Ammunition Accountability' Legislation.
Remember how Obama said that he wasn't going to take your guns? Well, it seems that his allies in the anti-gun world have no problem with taking your ammo!
The bill that is being pushed in 18 states (including Illinois and Indiana) requires all ammunition to be encoded by the manufacturer, a data base of all ammunition sales. So, they will know how much you buy and what calibers. Nobody can sell any ammunition after June 30, 2009 unless the ammunition is coded.
Any privately held uncoded ammunition must be destroyed by July 1, 2011. (Including hand loaded ammo.) They will also charge a 05 cent tax on every round so every box of ammo you buy will go up at least $2.50 or more! If they can deprive you of ammo they do not need to take your gun! This legislation is currently pending in 18 states: Alabama, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Washington.
Inform your friends in these states AND fight to dissolve this BILL!
To find more about the anti-gun group that is sponsoring this legislation and the specific legislation for each state, go to:

With this phantom legislation enroute to the hopper (instead of the waste can) coupled with Pelosi's legislation to tax our already depleted 401Ks, we're in deep trouble.

Should be noted (as always) that the company that owns the patent on this technology is the primary customer of the law firm that authored the legislation in the States.
What better way to sell a product that nobody wants by passing a law requiring that product.

This is a case of a company inventing a technology that nobody wants and trying to force adoption using political cronies. It's every bit as stupid as "microstamping" cartridges with chambers and firing pins. That's another loser. Ditto for "ballistic databases". All are failed technologies. All are easily defeated. They do nothing except drive up the cost of firearms and ammunition.

Here in Texas, people do not need helmets to ride motorcycles.
Legislation was passed at the urging of the bicycle helmet mfg. So you need one for a bike but not for a Motorcycle.
To: IbJensen
Good luck getting this passed in MS, SC, AL, TN, KY, AZ, MO and probably PA. In may also be a problem.
Those states were listed but I am sure there will be major pushback on this tax and infringement on the Second.

They are in office because a bunch of liberal dorks at the ballot box put them in office. The dorks outnumber the sane folks. I realized I was outnumbered about 10 years ago. It took a year to arrange my escape to Idaho.

Is this a notification that it was reintroduced in all those states, or is it recycled old news?

Any privately held uncoded ammunition must be destroyed by July 1, 2011.If the government is going to make us destroy something that we legally purchased, then it will have to pay just compensation for the de facto taking of private property. Given the cost of ammo and the likely increase in the cost of ammo as a result of this legislation, most of these states will not be able to afford to pay us fair market value.

If each box has a unique code, they will need at least an 11 digit code with letters and numbers in it, given the amount of ammo sold commercially in the USA. Imagine how many 50 rd boxes of .22 get sold every year.
Assuming that the sales keep up with historical levels, of course.
Along with the code comes ammo registration, so if the police find a slug at a crime scene that has part of your code on it, you will be hauled in for questioning while your home is searched for all ammo, and your guns temporarily borrowed for ballistics testing, fingerprinting, serial number check for registration, and DNA profiling.
I’d expect a civil suit from an aggrieved family (helped by a nonprofit grief counseling organization) since you are responsible (it is your bullet after all).

Has anyone even tried to buy certain ammo the last several months? I’ve been trying to buy some 380 since Christmas for my girlfriend’s mother. I’ve been to Tennessee, Connecticutt, Vermont, New Hampshire, Indiana, Kentucky, Oregon and who knows where else all to no avail. Even most of the online stores I’ve checked are out of stock. They can’t take our guns, but they can sure control the ammo.

Okay, sanity check.
The House Bill for Maryland (for example) that was cited by the link was for LAST YEARS SESSION and is dead.
2008 Regular Session bill information current as of November 23, 2008 - 0:19 a.m.
Please make sure the information you provide is at least ACCURATE.
While this in no way should say they won't try something like this in the future, it's stuff like this that makes me think that our own 2nd Amendment brothers are simply stirring the pot in order to make gun/ammo sales.

I can think of one great way to “destroy it,” but I don’t think those legislators would like it too much...not that it would matter after it was “destroyed.” :)

"Should be noted (as always) that the company that owns the patent on this technology is the primary customer of the law firm that authored the legislation in the States... Since lawyers are technically officers of the court, they belong to the judicial branch of government, and their participation in the legislative or executive branches (other than as staff counsel) is at it's very core, a conflict of interest.

Any privately held uncoded ammunition must be destroyed by July 1, 2011. (Including hand loaded ammo.) I'll bet that a lot gets turned in, and very quickly - but not necessarily in the manner that the sponsors and supporters of this bill are contemplating. Me, I have a suspicion that lots will get turned in at speeds from 850 FPS all the way up to 3,300 or so FPS.

Man .380 must be the worst. I like Sportsman’s guide because they usually list the inventory online. The earlies t is Jul 6, 2009 backordered. 9 mm had some in stock.
Ammoman out of stock on .380 too. Cheaper Than Dirt - out of stock on .380. CTD has 9 mm in the more expensive stuff.
Any other suggestions here folks?

Now, now. Let's not be so negative. Banning drugs has worked so well. The war on drugs can serve as an excellent guide for the war on guns. I agree. They will have an awful time banning lead and lead alloys, what with 100+ years of production in large volumes, and the making of brass cases (aside from the billions and billions out there) would be a cinch for many machinists. Casting is an old and oft-used skill, and with the price of ammo skyrocketing as it has in the last year or so, many more people are getting into it. Primers - ditto, though they'd likely be simpler than what is currently manufactured by the billions each year. Powder - same.
Besides, as an acquaintance of mine once said, "why worry about what is or isn't in the store, when the morons are going to bring the store to you?"
