Miss North Carolina Kristen Dalton was crowned Miss USA on Sunday, but the big story to come out of the normally politics-free telecast was Miss California's comments regarding gay marriage.
When asked by judge Perez Hilton, whether she believed in gay marriage, Miss California, Carrie Prejean, said "We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite. And you know what, I think in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that's how I was raised
Keith Lewis, who runs the Miss California competition, tells FOXNews.com that he was "saddened" by Prejean's statement.
"As co-director of the Miss California USA, I am personally saddened and hurt that Miss California believes marriage rights belong only to a man and a woman," said Lewis in a statement. "I believe all religions should be able to ordain what unions they see fit. I do not believe our government should be able to discriminate against anyone and religious beliefs have no politics in the Miss California family."
Co-director Shanna Moakler told FOXNews.com that she fully supported Lewis' statement.

Miss California's answer sparked a shouting match in the lobby after the show. "It's ugly," said Scott Ihrig, a gay man, who attended the pageant with his partner. "I think it's ridiculous that she got first runner-up. That is not the value of 95 percent of the people in this audience. Look around this audience and tell me how many gay men there are."
Charmaine Koonce, the mother of Miss New Mexico USA Bianca Matamoros-Koonce, argued back.
"In the Bible it says marriage is between Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve!"

This is begging for pictures ...
These people are deranged.
So ... why did they ask her the question in the first place?
How do you think this guy feels about a marriage between a human and an animal?
What a putz.
Real men don't talk this way. If he isn't queer, this is a guy who gets his nuts back on Saturday nights for an hour or two. Rest of the time, he better tow the mark or mom or the mrs will crack him a good one.
I guess people are entitled to their own opinions, unless of course that opinion differs from that of the crazy gay rights left. I don’t believe this is offensive at all. Why was this question even posed to a Miss America contestant?
Let’s see...she was asked a question, she responded truthfully with her own opinion....
DESTROY HER!!!!
If not, sounds like an “ambush” to me!
Poor girl, all she needed to do was to say the following: “Barack Obama was asked whether he supported gay marriage when he was running for President. Barack Obama said no, and I agree with him.”
The flaming Mario Armando Lavandeira, Jr. aka Perez Hilton is a sad Paris Hilton wannabe without the money, looks, wardrobe, or the undercarriage.
She was asked by Perez Hilton, a flaming gay if there ever was one. No doubt he wanted to bring up the topic so gays could trot out Miss California as a supporter or try to shame her, as they’re doing. Either way, they win.

"THUMP THUMP THUMP"
To put future beauty pageant contestants on notice about the correct range of responses to this question. They range from whole hearted acceptance to very mild and limited "personal reservations".
Well she obviously doesn't have the latest gay-friendly translation where it IS actually Adam & Steve in the Garden, Sodom & Gomorrah were praised throughout the land for their free-thinking social policies and the New Testament is only half the size due to the elimination of those 'hate-filled' rants by 1st century fear-mongers.
Gay men attending beauty contests and getting offended when contestant does not support gay marriages !! F*ck we live in an upside down universe!!
Of course it was. This is a beauty (*cough* scholarship! *cough*) pagent, not a political debate.
And someone needs to tell Nancy-boy the co-director that 80% of the country is AGAINST gay marriage and the only time is succeeds is by judicial fiat. And Miss California is reflecting the views of the MAJORITY in California.
To quote your Messiah and his minions: “You lost. Get over it.”
I happened to see her response and how crestfallen the questioner seemed when she opposed gay marriage. I admire her courage, because she knew what the "expected" answer was, yet she chose to answer honestly. It may have cost her the title.
"Oh I WISH THEY ALL COULD BE CALIFORNIA GIRRRRRRRRRRRLLLLLLLLSSS!"
“As co-director of the Miss California USA, I am personally saddened and hurt that Miss California believes marriage rights belong only to a man and a woman,” said Lewis in a statement”
Right Lewis. Somebody should even be able to marry their own horse if they want to in America. And that must be exactly what your mother did, because you are a real horse’s @$$!!!
Someone have a thrill running up their leg? lol
Seems to me that the question did what it was supposed to do, weed out potential “problems”.
“So ... why did they ask her the question in the first place?

Correct. She probably would have won if she had given the acceptable response to the question.
So do I
Really, the director of the Miss California pageant is saddened that Miss California and her family agree with the MAJORITY of Californians?
Kudos to her for standing up and speaking her mind regardless of the consequences!
So does the majority in Caleeeforneeeia. Someone needs to clue Scotty in....
lol..ewwww, I hit reply by mistake too soon
I support both of their rights to make statements, but I agree with Miss Calif.
Good for Miss USA.

Someone asked her, she told, and this jerk is upset...LOL.
The sexual degenerate who posed tghe question should have been silenced before he violated the pagent rules by asking such a question of the contestant. The asker is a degenerate activist and this is illustrative of how these sexual degenerates have infected every aspect of American society.
I turned it off once they showed the loonie-toon judges.
I turned it off once they showed the loonie-toon judges.
If we should ever manage to take control of the fashion industry from the homosexuals, that poor thing might actually get to eat a meal.
Isn’t it stupid that she was asked for her opinion but is then excoriated for giving it?
:)
She could have said “I voted for Barrack Obama and whatever he says on this or any other subject, I’m standing with him 100 per cent!”
They would not have DARED crown anyone else.
I read through the article, but there was no mention of the question that was asked of the winner. Does anybody know if she was asked the same question as Miss California, and if so, what her answer was?
As co-director of the Miss California USA, I am personally saddened and hurt that Miss California believes marriage rights belong only to a man and a woman," said Lewis in a statement. What, they asked and then wanted her to lie about her personal beliefs, which ARE spot on BTW? And what does her beliefs have to do with beauty anyway? Bah!
They are trying to demonize her until she comes out with a full apology, explanation and poses on the cover of a gay magazine saying she’s sorry.
They did the same thing to American Idol contestant Jennifer Hudson.
This really should be sufficient to turn a homosexual straight.
They suspected what her answer would be, and wanted to smear her and make her too controversial to have any sort of career involving Hollywood in the future?
OMG....that’s just TOO MUCH INFORMATION showin’!!!!
I can’t stand that weirdo.
