National Organization for Marriage to Steve Schmidt: 'Losing Elections Does Not Make You an Expert on Gay Marriage'

PRINCETON, NJ, April 17 /Christian Newswire/ -- Today, the National Organization for Marriage (NOM) responded to Steve Schmidt on CNN:

"Steve Schmidt's first national TV address this week is part of a coordinated campaign to manufacture a message point: Americans are ready to give up on the marriage issue. I'm not worried about this press spin, because the people who believe it are going to wake up to find the political landscape is very different than they imagine," said Brian Brown, executive director of NOM. "People are responding very powerfully to our ads and other messaging because they don't want politicians imposing gay marriage on them or their children or their grandchildren."

"Steven Schmidt? Isn't this the guy who ran a failed presidential campaign, who advised a failed governor (Arnold Schwarzenegger) who insiders say was recently fired by Meg Whitman?" Brown continued, "Sure, we can understand why Steve would be looking for a way to make some new friends -- but why would anyone take his advice on how to win elections at this point?"

"Imagine what America -- or the GOP -- will be like when anyone who believes marriage is the union of husband and wife can be excluded from high office, or public influence, in the way we now exclude bigots and racists. What does that do to the electoral map?" Brown asked.

"There is no conservative case for gay marriage. Gay marriage represents the overthrow of the core idea of marriage in our tradition and every faith tradition. And it will put government on the side of excluding traditional faith communities from the public square," said Maggie Gallagher, President of NOM.

Steve Schmidt is an idiot who ran a bad campaign with a bad candidate. The ASSES in the McCain camp should have never run but he was a set up to lose or Soros Plan B. Juan McCain, his daughter, Schmidt and these other RINOs can go to h*ll.

Thanks for posting this. She is absolutely right.

When it was on the ballot all over the country in 2004, even the Amish, not ordinarily politically involved, came out in large numbers and voted for Bush.

Sadly he didn't get done what we had prayed for, but the point is, that issue won the election! If the GOP is foolish enough to abandon the issue, half the country at a minimum will be disenfranchised.

Maybe we would’ve lost in 2008 no matter what. But we could’ve at least shown some fight! I didn’t see much of that out of the McCain campaign aside from Sarah Palin.

Exactly, if the issue is moot, then why did it pass in CA 52-48?

Schmidt, Meaghan McCain, Joe Wurzelbacher was speaking the truth when he said some of the things on the McCain tour bus really shocked him..this folks are fake as 3 dollar bills.

Steve Schmidt, you are a McCainite loser — and stoopid. This country is lost without traditional values and strong families.

Without a strong right wing base in America, there is nothing to stop the secular steamroller called Obama-socialism.

Yes he did, specifically about the bailouts but if one can find his statement he saw a couple of things that were less then positive.

Small wonder Palin has little to do with McCain now.

McCain is/was a totally flawed candidate and essentially a fool. He stands for nothing and sucks up to the Dems at every turn. He stabs conservatives in the back whenever he can. He is almost as bad as Ted Kennedy.

Steve Schmidt: “Republicans are in danger of being seen as the conservative party. Stop being conservatives, please.

Socialism is the wave of the future. Get on board or go swimmin.

Obama’s popularity will last forever.

The best way to win is to steal your opponent’s ideas, then govern like your opponent, then make fun of everyone in your party who doesn’t do the same. It’s worked so well up to this point.”

Why is it that we’re the only ones who ever have to change our fundamental beliefs to be successful. Aside from a couple 9/11 conservatives like Lieberman and Miller, it always goes the other way.

One thing is certain. It will always be Gay Marriage and it will never be marriage. Even the homos recognize that in their language.

I’m now mortified that I voted for McCain - seeing who his friends/family are. What an abject traitor.

Why ANY Republican would hire Mike Murphy or Steve Schmidt is BEYOND me!! They are HORRIBLE! They need to just change their party to Democrat.
