An estimated 1 million Americans participated in at least 1,000 tea parties, according to reports by organizers tabulating the nationwide numbers, with documented protests held in 50 states.
Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform told WND, "The Obama administration has awakened a sleeping giant."
Tax Day Tea Party national event coordinator Amy Kremer told WND she has confirmed that more than 850 parties took place. She has at least 100 more reports in her e-mail inbox that have not been posted.
Asked how many people attended the events, she responded, "I would estimate it at over 1 million. I'm waiting on more numbers to come in from organizers right now. I can tell you it is absolutely over 750,000 right now."

Well, it was more than a thousand all told at the Denton, TX rally.
I was at the Tyler, Tx ‘Tea Party’ at 12-2:30. Then on to the Dallas ‘Tea Party’ by 6-9:30. They were both GREAT! I got pix but my computer has fierce pop-up blockers and cant upload any to FreeRepublic.
Went w/ my mom and husband in the afternoon and was able to bring the kids (15 and 4) to Dallas. AWESOME!!
The List, ping
ummmm....why does this article make sooo many references to Norquist and his “Americans for Tax Reform”? Maybe it’s just me, but the way this article reads leads me to believe that he/they are/were much more involved in our grassroots movement than I’d like. Anyone?
On a Wednesday, a working day, TAX day and most of which were around the all too brief lunch time!?!!?!
You KNOW this is on a meeting agenda somewhere....
Tell the Dems a Trillion.
They won’t know the difference.
Maybe a Brazilian?
I estimate it was at least 2.5 times that - at least! - and likely many more if you consider the continuously arriving and departing groups.
Here's how I figure that: the area where people were standing was just a bit over 2400 square yards.
You were there: folks were standing shoulder-to-shoulder over that whole area, but I conservatively (of course!) estimated an average of one person per square yard.
Ergo, 2400 absolute minimum, but I'd realistically say 3,000 - 3500 is much more likely.
The Denton police department was quoted by the infamously inaccurate Record-Chronicle as estimating 900 - 1000, but how would they know? Having spent the evening standing on the SE corner of the Square.
I’m not too worried about it. Somebody has to do an official tally, it might as well be Americans for tax reform. I know that I heard about and helped organize in PSL through a 912 group that glenn beck started. I went to the orlando tea party in March organized by 3 housewives that appeared on Glenn Beck the next day. How did you hear about your tea party? How did everyone else hear about theirs? We had no money, we made our own signs, we took our own day off work to be there, we paid our own way to get there. And the libs, on their very best day, could not pull off what we did. Enjoy your moment, then tomorrow, GET BACK OUT THERE AND FIGHT!!!! :)
Rush said some org said about 189,000 today. No way it was that small.
Because Grover is striving mightily to get out in front on this one.
He's doomed to failure, of course, because this wasn't ABOUT taxes, per se, but the perversion of our country and our political system.
NO way that is even close to accurate. A freeper posted on here today that she/he started a spreadsheet, and the last I saw it this morning, reports had come in from freepers of over 350,000 with only 188 cities reporting so far. I hope they repost it!!
2500 to 3000 in Albany, NY. Not bad for lunch hour and a 3 hour permit.
It’s just getting started.
July 4 and Sept 12 should be the next big ones.
We had a couple thousand attendees in my town, and neither I nor any of my associates were able to make it. I bet the vast bulk of people who wanted to go were unable. One million may have showed up, but probably tens of millions agree 100% with the sentiments expressed. Add all those “extremists” who serve their country to our ranks and the fascists are in pretty deep Pelosi.
I have noticed several groups and a couple of politicians that have tried to put themselves out in front of the TEA movement. I think it just comes natural for certain personalities.
Its like that person at work that always stands up to take credit for the collective efforts of a group. Its best to just nod and smile, knowing that all involved know what really happened.
Most people were working, so one can assume that if the protests were on a weekend the attendance would have been larger.
It is truly amazing at the lack of coverage by the MSM.
I felt very patriotic while I was attending. Proud to be an American.
“Deep Pelosi”... I like it!
May have to substitute that for my old old “deep kimchee!”
Their biggest hope is that we won't stick together and persist. Senators up for re-election will vote against this administration to save themselves. We really have the power to stop this administration and it's radical policies.
These BS reports that keep coming in are the reason that we need to organize state chapters quickly and march on our individual state capitols and DC (depending on where you live and what your plans are for that weekend) go to ANY state capitol that you are near for the day of July 4th. They CANNOT “miss” some of the protests if every one of them is located in a state capitol or DC.
While I am sure it will be an inconvenience to many, I am sure our founders were inconvenienced way more, but they managed. We could find out about renting buses to the capitols to make a full day of it. I am sure there are people near the capitols who would be able to get some of the early work done.
Enough of this MSM crap, we don’t need em. Our target is the jerks in office, and who gives a rats butt if they don’t want to cover it or make fun of us. If we never put their channels on- in unity- they won’t be on the air long anyway. Anderson Cooper, that freak, has less viewers than the city of Miami has residents! how long do you think he can stay on the air? Same with obledork, the girl/boy, and tingle dude. They are history and they know it. Fox will cover us, as well as the usuals, and we won’t really need that coverage as the acorn/code pinkers/obamabots see us marching to those capitols they will wet their pants and run back in their govt housing. We WILL win, because we fight for a cause, not a handout!!
Think about it all, lets get this puppy rolling! We did a pretty good job for our first time out I would say. A million + is a pretty good turnout. I have renewed hope in this country; I guess Barack was right, he brought us hope, now lets go get the change...........
That’s why they’re called the “dinosaur media,” and hardly a week goes by some major newsrag doesn’t go belly-up.

500,420 just now!
Here's a Brazilian...
O Reilly looked like the Cheshire Cat today, proudly proclaiming that for the tea parties, he had more coverage than CNN, CNBC, MSNBC and headline news combined and, I believe 70,000 viewers more to spare. He earned his moment tho I think he is a vascillating blowhard, and I congratulate him!
that lady needs me I can tell
The leftist pinheads are trying to spin this down any way they can.
And of course the number of those attending doesn't even take into account those of us who were there in spirit. So tens of millions...
That is what scares the crap out of politicians. I heard from a congressional rep once, that an email, means little, a phone call or fax, a lot more, a handwritten letter is like 300 constituents opinion, but coming to the office, thats heavy.
If a million people “showed up at the office” by going to a tea party yesterday, that is like, a HUGE number of voter sentiment. They really do need clean underwear about now :)
Credit for the spreadsheet goes to ProtectOurFreedom
I’m not surprised about it, but it pisses me off to no end to see pols and lobbyists trying to hitch their wagons to this movement. Especially that scumbag Norquist.
‘anyone’? yep and we are speaking of that same grover norquist who is very heavily involved with the promotion and attempted acceptance around America of that wonderful muslim front organization, C.A.I.R. and also the founder of the ‘islamic studies group’. he is a real sneaky enemy from what I have read. just a few years back he even managed to sit on the board of directors at the NRA!!! (not sure how he pulled that off or if he still is involved there but/and I would have hoped they would have ash canned him by now, the NRA is to great of an organization to have him helping direct agenda).
Agreed. But, my concern is....how much did Norquist have to do with the movement from the ‘get go’? Is he who Pelosi and others were referring to when they say it was not grassroots?
yah...that’s why I’m wondering if there was so much emphasis put on taxes rather than out of control spending!
It’s up to almost 500k with 265 cities.
http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=pgz_ZgmCSloyVfhRGED-vMA
Well maybe they’re just trying to jump in front of the parade.
This was wayyy to diverse for anyone to coordinate in this short time. If this isn’t grassroots than nothing is. Don’t listen to that witch Pelosi - that BS was to appease her rat buddies and I bet even she doesn’t believe it.
she knows this was real... for her to call it astro turf is ludicrous... she knows these tea parties were nothing like the liberal rallies where attendees are bussed in and paid for... their reactions tell me they know this was the real thing...
Nate Silver of 538.com says the Tea Parties numbered 262,000 nationwide.
If Obama isn’t careful, next time it’ll be 2-million.
Maybe 3-million!
The latest count, and he still doesn't have all the tea parties counted, was over 510,000. He estimates over a million when he is done.
I’m so proud of us! :-)
I counted > 10 million (using my ACORN statistics ...).
As I see it, your post is central to this movement. I, personally, don’t even want to hear a politician speak at one of these grassroots rallies - I want them to LISTEN and observe - even if it is a politician that has worked for the values and concerns the rallies address.
I think the elected need to show some humility and respect for the people whom they represent.
These human events get to be like the battle of the bulge with the chaos of the enemy trying to fool soldiers by simply changing their garmets.
It is important, therefore, to march under the banner of truths (ones we hold as self evident) and principles.

Nice!
Dismissing us (and ignoring us) is probably the best thing that could happen. He who ignores reality ends up with a rude awakening.
And I guarantee you on a Wednesday there’s a large number of people who can’t go. We had nearly as many a couple of Saturdays ago as some cities 10 times our size had tax day.
Rule of thumb legislators in our state had always told us is that for every one who speaks out there are 10 who don’t who feel the same. Add in all the tea parties that have happened and are yet to come times 10 and that is enough to scare any legislator.
