Video: Specter has harsh words for Toomey; tries linking him to Frank, Dodd
Pocono Record ^ | April 16, 2008

U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa., wasted no time going on the offensive against Pat Toomey, his challenger in next year's Republican primary. Toomey officially announced his candidacy on Wednesday morning.

Specter came out swinging Wednesday afternoon, accusing his Republican primary opponent of helping to cause the financial meltdown.

"Toomey was against regulation. He was with Barney Frank and Dodd," he said, referring to two Democratic architects of the federal bank bailout, Massachusetts Rep. Barney Frank and Connecticut Sen. Christopher Dodd.

"He's a big part of the problem, and now like the AIG guys, he wants a promotion,” Specter said. “He wants my seat in the Senate.”

Specter was in the Poconos to meet with a group of Monroe County Republicans. The race promises to be heated: Specter barely beat out Toomey — then a little-known Lehigh Valley congressman — in 2004's primary battle.

No faith in Specter.... NONE!

He, like McCain, should do us all a favor and go on a nice long holiday.... preferably to Australia or New Zealand.

"He's a big part of the problem, and now like the AIG guys, he wants a promotion"

Could this guy be any dumber? Who said anything about promotions for the AIG guys. All they received (and returned) were agreed-upon bonuses to compensate for their dollar-a-year salaries. The theme for the 2010 elections should be "Out with the RINOs"

Remember, in an off-year election, the turnout in the primaries is way low, andI predict the early polls will show Toomey running away with this...If Rendell doesn’t run, I expect Arlen to cut a deal with the Reid now and cross the aisle....

Arlen doesn’t look all that well. He should retire while he still has some of his health left. He’s going to lose if he does, why waste another minute in politics if you life is on the line.

Time for him to go. He’s voted with Dodd more than the Republicans.

On Tuesday, just one day before the Harrisburg Tea Party was set to launch, Specter was in Harrisburg with Democrat Congressman Tim Holder asking Democrats to be Republican for just one day - Primary day. He urged them to change their party affiliation so that they could vote for him in the Republican Primary.

I am so glad that I get to vote in this election. Yeah! I am not sure who I will vote for as I know Toomey as my representative when he was in Office and did a great job, but just want to ensure he has not changed and became some RINO guy.

That is my district!!!! I didn’t feel he was little known. Oh well. The rest of the nation did I suppose.

Snarlin Arlen is case in point number one why I don’t claim to be a Republican. People concerned with this country come second to the partie’s needs. Many Republicans (such as John Cornyn) are already actively supporting the Snarlin one (http://www.poligazette.com/2009/04/15/national-republicans-support-arlen-specter/). Why do they do this? Because they think Snarlin Arlen is more likely to win a general election. I don’t care if he wins over a democrat. He is a freakin democrat in my opinion!

Wow, big man against fellow Republicans, but against rats, like a typical moderate, he cowers. If there was ever a bigger hypocrite, other than McCain, he is it.

He’s going to lose if he does,....You have no idea of the power of Unions in PA and Philadelphia. They cross register, vote in other counties and then revert back, vote for him and bring in out of staters.
