Updated article; Newspaper admits estimated crowd at 500- 1000 ** New Pictures **

CORPUS CHRISTI — As protesters threw burlap sacks into Corpus Christi Bay Wednesday, the crowd chanted Rev-o-lu-tion, rev-o-lu-tion during a Tax Day Tea Party to protest what participants call out-of-control federal spending.

The event was patterned after the Boston Tea Party tax protest that was among the events leading to the colonies break from British rule, but had some modern-day concessions.

Unlike their revolutionary-era counterparts, a small band who protested under cover of darkness and in disguise, todays protesters numbered between 500 and 1,000 locally and were joined in similar parties across the nation. Participants proudly carried signs and flags and pinned tea bags to their shirts or hats.

And the sacks werent left to pollute the bay. They were reeled in by rope, recycled and thrown again and again. And while the sacks were labeled with the word tea, the didnt contain any. They were filled with empty 2-liter plastic bottles borrowed from a recycling center. Organizers needed something that would float.

The local event, promoted by talk radio host Eric Von Wade, was one of 60 in Texas, according to the Tax Day Tea Party Web site. Von Wade said much of the publicity for the event came from social networking sites on the Internet. He estimated that 800 to 1,000 were in the crowd at its peak; various police estimates put the crowd between 500 and 1,000.

When Von Wade, who was broadcasting live from the event, asked how many in the crowd had never been to a protest before, most raised their hands.

Jane Dodson, who was among those first-time protesters, said big spending and concerns about how big the federal government is growing brought her to the event.

I am very concerned about their intrusion into our lives, said Dodson, who brought her labradoodle Dutch to the event with a U.S. flag bandana and a sign attached to his collar that read Im going to a tea party.

Many others in the crowd carried signs with slogans including Your mortgage is not my problem. Children also carried signs, some that read Keep your hands out of my piggy bank.

The crowd was respectful, but passionate about the cause while cheering on speakers and taking turns to voice opinions. Participants even sang God Bless America.

Taxes are one major part of what we are concerned with but we are also concerned about politicians, said Mark Blankenship, a member of a group called the American Constitutionalists and a listener to Von Wades show.

They need to abide by their oath of office to uphold and defend the Constitution, Blankenship said.

Paul Hunt, came in a colonial costume, to reflect the nations history of tax protests.

Its a not just taxes, that is not the only issue, Hunt said. We want our country back.

Portland resident Don Nutting carried a toilet seat that with the lid down read Read tax plan and flush, and read Wash your hands of tyranny with the lid open.

Im irritated that they make tax spending plans without deliberation, Nutting said. It undermines the democratic process.

Robert Marsh, who described himself as an independent voter, said he attends rallies to listen to the speakers, check out the mood and watch the crowds.

I like to hear both sides, Marsh said.

Nicole Owens brought her 9- and 7-year-old children to the event and let them each take a turn at throwing a burlap sack into the water. She said they had not yet learned about the Boston Tea Party in school but she read them the story before they came.

I explained why this was a throwback to our founding fathers demonstrating what we stand for, Owens said.

I want them to understand the principle that our country was founded on and how far away from that our government is moving.

This is only the beginning!! We need to follow this up!

Join Allan Keyes at the Million Man March Sept.12-13

Anti-Obama organizations are being united at Freedoms First
http://www.freedomsfirst.org/
for a ‘million man’ march on Washington.
The permit is secured- AND ALREADY OVER HALF A MILLION AMERICANS HAVE SIGNED UP!

This is the only way we will ever get the attention of our elected officials the MSM and the masses- protest!

From the FreedomsFirst website:

We are moving forward on our rally in Washington D C.
We are working non stop in preparations for this historical event to be held Sept 12-13 2009 at the Lincoln Memorial Reflections pool in front of the Lincoln Memorial.
As for the time, The million man march that took place a few years age took over 2 years to organize, we are trying to push this through as fast as we can.
To protest in DC you have to have a permit and have approval to use a certain piece of land.

We called ahead of filing for these things. September 12 &13 were the next available days they had.
The other organization, resistnet.com, which was putting together a march for May 30, didn’t do this so they were refused their permit. Now they are joining with our group. So, we are doing this absolutely as soon we can.
To have a successful march takes time and organization.

Why are we protesting ?
1. To get the attention of the mainstream media.
2. To demand That Obama Provide proof that he is eligible to be president.
3. To demand that Congress and the Supreme court uphold our constitution.
4. To inform the public on the issue of Obama’s ineligibility to be president of the USA.
5. To demand that they can not take our constitutional rights away.

PRESIDENT OBAMA, WE DEMAND THAT YOU BE TRANSPARENT NOW
We will come together in a peaceful rally.
We are proud Americans who fear that we are losing the America we all know and love.
The America where millions have served in our military sacrificing their lives so that we remain free.
A people who honor their flag and understand what it means to fly it and are so proud to do so.
It is time for our voices to be heard loud and clear. Our government is for the people and by the people.
We are Americans who see our rights slipping away as we speak.
It is time our voices are heard.
It is time for us to shout loudly and strongly that we refuse to live under a socialist regime, where our voices are silenced.
Lets take this action now before we awaken one morning and our freedoms are nothing more than a memory.

WE WILL BE UNITED- CHRISTIAN, JEW, BUDDHIST, HINDU, ATHEIST, BLACK AND WHITE.
WE WILL BE ONE- ONE OF MANY WHO STAND AS PATRIOTIC AMERICANS DEMANDING OUR VOICES BE HEARD.
We will be DEMANDING THAT BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA ABIDE BY THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
WE DEMAND THE TRANSPARENCY HE PROMISED !!!!!!!!
GOD BLESS US ON THIS RALLY.
WITH YOUR PRAYERS, YOUR DEDICATION AND YOUR HELP, IT WILL BE
AN HISTORICAL, MAGICAL, WONDERFUL SHOW OF THE REAL AMERICA.

We ask you to wear RED, WHITE AND BLUE CLOTHING.
BRING YOUR FLAGS WAVE THEM HIGH.
SIGNS WILL BE PROVIDED- WE WANT TO GIVE THE GREATEST IMPRESSION OF WHO WE ARE AS WE WILL BE SEEN ALL OVER THE WORLD.
UNITED AND PEACEFUL AND WITH CONTROL
WE WILL LEAVE THE GROUNDS AS CLEAN AS THEY WERE GIVEN TO US.

Entertainment will be provided.
We are setting up a wonderful assortment of guest speakers, political and non political, prominent people and many surprises.
Major news networks, including CNN, MSNBC and Fox News. Resistnet.com will also attend.

Nice - tea in the “harbor” and all!

The TEA parties are a solid start. But we, the people, have to follow up by having “Push Back Until” events later this year, early next year, and for as long as we have to: http://pushbackuntil.com.

It will not be easy, but how interested are we in saving our country from an irresponsible Congress? If we, the people, do nothing, our country is finished.

“Be in D.C. to Push Back Until!”
